November 9 Greetings
Dear Ones,

It’s Monday, the beginning of a new week, as we continue to “Be Church Together” even as the church building is closed for gatherings.
The little bit of snow we got in Prescott Valley overnight is melting off the car in the driveway, and the thermometer on the back deck reads 34 degrees. It’s cloudy, but I think the snow is done for the day. We have definitely slid into winter weather, but it looks good for next Sunday’s outdoor worship: with a high predicted of 62 degrees. The wind blew all the leaves off of my maple trees, but here are pictures of some local color from Mt. Vernon Avenue in Prescott and near Thumb Butte. Don’t forget to send in your pictures and stories! We love to hear about your adventures and see what you have been doing!
A big THANK YOU to Gail Kenny for filling in for Kimberly while she was on vacation. We are so blessed to have such talented folks in our congregation. Gail stepped up so that our media and communications continued flawlessly, even as she is taking a full load of seminary classes online! Gary Kiser filled in a few other gaps as well—thank you!

Updating the photo directory: We Need Your Pictures!

Mary has given me a list of whose pictures we are missing and I will be calling folks to see if they need assistance getting a picture done. One of our vintage members, (can’t really call her old; she is much more like a fine wine) Carol Hotten had her granddaughter take a picture and sent it to me, so I don’t think the rest of you have any excuse! Using a solid background, take a selfie with your phone or have someone else take it for you. Please include your smiling face and upper torso. You can email the picture to the church office at Emmanuelelca@gmail.com, or text it to me on my cell phone at 310-890-9785 (make sure you include your name) as soon as possible! Thank you to those who have already submitted yours.
The group Lutherans Exploring Racial Justice, that read the books Dear Church and Letter from Birmingham Jail, has decided to continue its work in understanding racism by inviting everyone to watch the documentary, “13th and then join them on Tuesday, November 17 at 7:00 p.m. on Zoom for a time of discussion.
The documentary is available on many formats including YouTube (click above) and Netflix. Director Ava DuVernay exams the U.S. prison system in light of the 13th Amendment to the constitution that abolished slavery and involuntary servitude except as punishment for a crime. Look for other offerings by this group.

Remember that we are asking everyone to wear masks when you are in the building with others, especially for those working the Interfaith Meal! If you need a mask, we have extras in the church office.

We are doing a single meal this month and next, since the fourth Fridays fall on holiday weekends. This Friday we are serving a turkey dinner with all the trimmings—lots of help is needed! Call the office if you can help with prep or serving.
