Rho Zeta Celebrates 10 Years

Ten years ago, members of the class of 2007, under the leadership of key faculty members, established Rho Zeta, the USJ chapter of Tri Beta.  Tri Beta is a nationally recognized biological sciences honors society.
On Friday, October 13, alumni and current members of Rho Zeta, along with faculty, gathered in celebration of the of the 10th anniversary of Rho Zeta. Members enjoyed a tour of the state of the art Physician Assistant Studies building prior to gathering in the Crystal Room for an opportunity to hear from founding and current leadership members. Danielle Cowee '09, former chapter president, kicked-off the evening with welcoming remarks. She went on to introduce Veronica Schmidt Teron '07, founding member and inaugural chapter president. Wrapping up the remarks, the group heard from current president, Victoria Duque Ferreira '19.

The Rho Zeta Chapter is the largest independent club on campus with more than 50 active members. The Chapter participates each year in community outreach events such as Mercy Day and the Red Cross Blood Drive, and provides opportunities for students to attend research talks and networking events.
Admission Open House 2017

Over 130 high school juniors and seniors from as far as Ohio attended the Admission Open House on Saturday, October 21, 2017.  This year's Open House had a 30% increase in attendance, when compared to last year's event. Prospective students and their families toured the USJ campus and attended informational sessions on academic programs, experiential learning opportunities, and co-curricular activities. Students who attended are those who are considering USJ for admission for academic year 2018-2019 and beyond.  More than 25% of the students who attended were men.

Following the June 2017 announcement that USJ will admit men to the full-time undergraduate programs, there has been a significant increase in undergraduate inquires.

Historic Connections: Travel to Ireland

The office of Alumni Relations in conjunction with Cruise Planners is offering a trip to Dublin, Ireland including stops in several other historic locations. The trip is scheduled for September 30 - October 6, 2018. The tour will begin with a visit to the homestead of Catherine McAuley, founder of the Sisters of Mercy, the very platform on which the University of Saint Joseph thrives. In partnership with Mercy International and Cruise Planners, a full day program at the McAuley homestead will include a tour of Catherine's house, an opportunity to review and reflect on her writings, morning tea and lunch, followed by a program about several of the Mercy International missions. The trip will continue with travel to other highlights of Ireland including Trinity College, Glendalough, Kinsdale and Killarney, the Dingle Peninsula, and the Cliffs of Moher. When you are planning your vacation for this coming year, think about the connection and fun you will have with this trip!

For more information please contact Saint Joseph alumna, Lisa Martin at lisa.martin@cruiseplanners.com. Reservations/deposits are being accepted now.

Investiture 2017

Just yesterday .... or so it seems, you were preparing to be ceremoniously recognized for your advanced academic standing.

Investiture took place on Sunday, October 22, 2017 in the Connor Chapel of Our Lady. Members of the junior class dressed in scholar's garb for the first time. The class processed to the Chapel in academic gowns and received their caps from faculty members. Elizabeth Vozzola, Ph.D., Professor of Psychology, delivered the faculty address entitled, "You're Too Smart for That." It was a beautiful day of tradition and celebration.
Campus Update for Alumni

President Free welcomed alumni to campus recently to share the most recent campus updates.

The informal conversations covered a broad range of topics including campus improvements, General Educational requirements, coeducation implementation, school structure and the addition of new athletic programs.

Dr. Free shared that USJ is exploring several new majors: Engineering Studies, Clinical Laboratory Management, Digital Media, and Sports Management.  It was felt that these new majors would appeal to a diverse population.

We will host another round of Campus Updates this spring.  We hope to see you there.
