MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

What a season it’s been at BOMA/GLA! From the amazing Awards Gala at the Skirball Cultural Center to the high-energy after-party that kept us celebrating late into the night, this fall has been full of connection, energy, and the spirit that makes our community so special.

Playing in the pickleball tournament at the Triple Play Sports Fest was another highlight for me. The event, the energy, and the friendly competition were incredible - and I’ll admit, it inspired me to take a few lessons so I can come back stronger next year!

A big thank-you to everyone who completed our recent membership survey. Your feedback is already shaping our 2026 planning, and many of your ideas will be incorporated as we update our strategic plan next year. Your input helps us grow and refine what we do to serve you better.

As we move through the final stretch of the year, remember to stay connected and informed:

And don’t forget to register for our final event of 2025 - ChrisMix on December 3 at the Hollywood Roosevelt. This event is free for all owners and managers, so bring your team and join us for a festive evening as we close out the year together.

Thank you for another fantastic year of collaboration, innovation, and community. Let’s keep the momentum going right into 2026!

~ Michele Ware

What's Happening in Advocacy

BOMA/GLA Advocacy Gains Momentum Across LA City and County

In October we finalized our meetings with every single LA City Council office, the Mayor’s Office, the LA City Controller as well as the LA City Attorney’s office. There is no doubt now that the halls in LA City are reverberating with the call for BOMA/GLA policy priorities including a repeal of Measure ULA, and an emphasis on public safety and addressing homelessness. Thanks to our fantastic advocacy team member based in Long Beach (Ashley Rheaume), we’ve been building strong relationships this month with their Council and Mayor as well. We are not letting up our pressure of repealing or at a minimum revising Measure ULA with the Mayor’s office especially.

With the support of our members, elected officials and their key staff members understand who we are, and are building long-term relationships that will help us achieve our goals.

As we pivot to LA County outreach, we invite you to join us in sharing our vision there as well. We have meeting with the office of Supervisor Holly Mitchell and Lindsey Horvath upcoming. We have already completed meetings with the great in-person meeting with District Attorney Nathan Hochman, and held virtual meetings with the office Supervisors Hilda Solis, Kathryn Barger and Janice Hahn. We are prioritizing public safety and green building standards and decarbonization efforts there – encouraging lawmakers to incentivize programs rather than mandating them.

The bottom line is without your support – our collective voice isn’t as strong. 2026 is fast approaching and we need your input to shape our response to major upcoming events like the Super Bowl, World Cup, and the Olympics. If you’d like to hear more or would like advocacy to join your staff meeting to report on updates please contact our Director of Government and Public Affairs Chris Bowen at CBowen@Bomagla.org

Policy Committees in Action

Our Property Technology Committee is hosting a panel discussion you won’t want to miss. Join industry leaders in property technology, AI, and sustainability to explore how innovation is cutting operating expenses, improving building performance, and elevating tenant experiences. From AI-powered HVAC optimization to EV charging and access control, gain practical insights you can apply to boost efficiency, reduce risks, and strengthen your bottom line. Register today to secure your spot!

Our Security and Emergency Preparedness Committee will be joined by Priscilla Salgado, Account Executive at TRL Systems, who will present on the importance of proactive planning in fire life safety systems: "Obsolescence in life safety systems isn’t just a maintenance issue — it’s a risk management challenge. Taking a proactive approach rather than a reactive one is essential to ensure reliability, compliance, and the ongoing protection of people and property. Join me on November 14 as I review the top three issues that most often create challenges for property owners, managers, and tenants." Register here

Codes and Regulations Committee’s policy briefing had building codes expert Bob Raymer discuss how California’s adoption of ASHRAE Standard 15 has created costly design challenges for commercial retrofits. He explained that a newly approved ASHRAE Addendum could eliminate the need for expensive ventilated shafts, saving property owners millions and supporting low-carbon goals. Raymer also outlined efforts to fast-track state code updates to reduce compliance burdens and deliver cost savings for the industry.

Our Sustainability Committee embarked on a tour of the IRS Demolition facility. The visit offered an in-depth look at how sustainable demolition practices are reshaping the construction and waste management industry.
