MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

It’s amazing how quickly this year has flown by, filled with accomplishments and memorable moments. Each year, my most memorable event is always our Annual Awards Gala and I’d like to thank everyone who attended. This sold-out event brought our community together for a night of celebration and recognition and the people and teams that make our industry proud. We’re already making plans to elevate next year’s event at the Skirball Center, which will offer a fresh and exciting setting for our annual celebration.

As we look toward 2025, now is the perfect time to consider how you’d like to engage further with your association. From volunteering and presenting at events to attending policy briefings or participating in our community impact programs, your involvement strengthens our work and makes a real difference. Every member’s contribution adds to our collective success and deepens our impact within the industry.

Speaking of community impact, it’s not too late to support the Building Skills Partnership Gala by attending or contributing to the annual scholarship program. This initiative is helping to build a pipeline of future leaders and every contribution matters. You can learn more about the program and its impact by watching this video.

Before the year ends, I hope to see each of you at our upcoming holiday celebration, ChrisMix, on December 5th at the Petersen Automotive Museum. It promises to be a fantastic way to wrap up the year with friends and colleagues. Thank you for your dedication, and here’s to a great finish to 2024 and an even stronger 2025!

Why did you join BOMA/GLA?

I joined BOMA/GLA to grow my network with some of the finest professionals in the area, to learn from them and to deepen my knowledge and understanding of the industry.

What is your favorite part about being a BOMA/GLA member?

The people, professionalism and events are some of the things that separate BOMA/GLA from other networking group.

What do you love most about the commercial real estate industry?

The CRE industry seems to always be changing and seeing the ways to respond is innovative and inspiring. But I think the best part of the industry is the energy that it's people bring everyday.

What's the first concert you every attended?

The first concert I went to was in 1999 (aging myself?): Jay-z, DMX with Method Man and Redman. I listen to all genres of music from Sinatra to Hendrix to the Beatles but hip-hop will always be my go-to.

What would be the theme song of your life?

One song that always resonates with me is "Gonna Fly Now" the Rocky Theme. As the tagline for the movie says "his whole life was a million to one shot."

Unlocking Impact: The Power of Civic Engagement for Property Teams

What does civic engagement mean to you? With Election Day just behind us, it’s a good reminder of the importance of staying engaged in our communities year-round.

But civic engagement doesn’t end with casting a ballot. It’s about building connections with local officials who shape our communities. For property teams, relationships with city council members, fire departments, and building and safety staff are as valuable as any industry connection, helping to streamline permit processes and address property concerns.

By working together and engaging in big-picture conversations with government partners, our industry can tackle shared challenges like the return to office, homelessness, and preparing for the 2028 Olympics. Policy Committees in Action

The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California presented a variety of rebate programs to our Sustainability Committee to help our members reduce water usage and meet efficiency regulations, including the statewide ban on irrigating non-functional turf.

Our Security and Emergency Preparedness Committee received a presentation from Allied Universal on how members can equip their properties with life-saving items to ensure self-sufficiency during emergencies. For instance, be sure to store emergency supplies in multiple locations within your building in case routes are cut off. This is especially important for emergencies that might delay external support.

Additionally, our Security and Emergency Preparedness Committee hosted a vital seminar on active shooter awareness, offering attendees key insights into shooter behaviors and early warning signs. Property managers left better prepared to implement proactive safety measures, strengthening security across their buildings.
