VOLUNTEER COUNCILMEMBERS

Have you ever wanted to really understand how government works from the ground up? Here is your chance. BAV Town Council is looking for volunteer councilmembers. If you have interest in participating or just have questions on the how it all works, please contact Mayor Howes.

STORM DRAIN CLEANING

The rain has returned, and with it the need to keep the grates covering our storm drains clear of debris. If the storm drain in the street near your home is collecting debris, please remove it so that rainwater won’t back up onto our streets.

TREE PERMITS / REMOVALS FROM PUBLIC RIGHTS-OF-WAY

This is a gentle reminder that resident’s wishing to remove a protected tree on their property must first obtain a tree-removal permit. For more information, please visit https://beauxarts-wa.gov/permits-and-inspections (scroll down to Tree Permit section) or contact Deputy Clerk Addie Tych.

In addition, NO TREES MAY BE REMOVED FROM TOWN PROPERTY, including the rights-of-way between private property lines and the paved roadway, without prior Council permission. If you have questions about whether a tree near your home is on your property or the Town’s, please contact Clerk/Treasurer Sue Ann Spens or Councilmember Paula Dix.

WINTER IS COMING

WSDOT reminds us that it’s time to get reacquainted with some tried-and-true winter driving tips!

  • Read the WSDOT Winter Driving Guide.
  • If you don’t have all-weather tires, you can swap your set for studded tires starting Nov. 1 until March 31.
  • Know before you go by checking current travel conditions, especially if your travel plans include our mountain passes. Some passes have already closed for the season – Chinook/SR 410 and Cayuse/SR 123.
  • Sign up for email and/or text updates from WSDOT.
COUNCIL BUSINESS

The Council met on Tuesday October 11, 2022 to discuss the following:

  • Comprehensive Plan Update Schedule / Contingencies. The Council briefly discussed an outline of the Town Planner’s schedule for completing the statutory update to the Town’s Comprehensive Plan and will continue this discussion at the November meeting.
  • Proposed Parks Levy Projects / Ideas. The Council heard more detail about the four ideas proposed for use of the Town’s allocation of Parks Levy funding and will continue their review at the November Council meeting.
  • Preliminary 2023 Budget. The Council reviewed preliminary estimates of anticipated revenues and expenditures for 2023. Despite the inflationary pressures impacting important services to the Town, including police and fire, the Council is strongly considering foregoing an increase in the 2023 property-tax levy due to the expected economic recession. Due to the need for immediate repairs to a water-distribution pipeline, the Council will review the Water Department’s rates and consider an increase to fund the repairs. (As a reminder, the Water Department is required, by state law, to be self-supporting and must cover all of its expenditures with water-system revenues.)
BUILDING DEPARTMENT

All necessary permits were issued last month for:

  • 2804 107th Ave SE: mechanical permit
