Last month’s Economic Outlook Luncheon was a success! Sponsored by Great Lakes Bay Michigan Works!, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, and Isabella Bank, eight panelists from varying industries focused on challenges caused by the pandemic, what their companies did to address those challenges, and gave key takeaways for our audience and constituents to help strengthen our community.
Our State of the Community Booklet highlights their responses to all three questions. I found the responses to the key takeaways very intriguing. The most common responses on what all of us can do moving forward to help our community were:
1) Work together
2) Recruit and Retain Students
3) Volunteer
4) Be kind, respectful, and patient
Further, as a part of this event, Kristen Wenzel, the Interim CEO of the Great Lakes Bay Michigan Works!, shared the 2021 Annual Economic Analysis from Michigan’s Labor Market News that highlights the ongoing recovery in 2021 from the impact of the pandemic. In addition to job growth and wage increases, Healthcare and social assistance and Educational services are industries that are expected to make important shifts in our economy.
It was truly a pleasure to hear these industry leaders speak on topics of such importance, and I look forward to working with all of our businesses to create a stronger community. Further, in considering the takeaways from this event, I encourage all of us to set the tone in our community by simply being kind.
