Monsignor Hendricks Receives Borromean Medal for Distinguished Achievement

On Friday, November 1, St. Charles Preparatory School commemorated the Feast of All Saints with a special emphasis on their patron, St. Charles Borromeo. As part of the liturgy, the school bestowed two of its most significant honors: The Borromean Medal for Distinguished Achievement was awarded to Monsignor Joseph M. Hendricks (a 1970 St. Charles Borromeo College graduate) and The Principal's Award for Leadership and Service to St. Charles was presented to Sandra and Jerry Ulibarri.

Mass was held in the Robert C. Walter Student Commons with Bishop Robert Brennan serving as the main celebrant. He was assisted by Deacon Don Poirier, Deacon Marion Smithberger '72, Msgr. Bill Dunn '57, Msgr. Paul Enke '64 (St. Edwards Parish), Fr. Matt Hoover (Immaculate Conception Parish) and Msgr. Hendricks (St. Brigid of Kildare Parish). A light lunch reception catered by Bosc + Brie followed.

Monsignor Joseph M. Hendricks received the prestigious award for his 47 years of service to the Diocese of Columbus. During that time Monsignor served as Spiritual Director at the Pontifical College Josephinum and Director of Spiritual Formation there. In addition, he was founding director of the Permanent Deacon School for the Diocese of Columbus. Monsignor Hendricks also served the Diocese of Columbus as Assistant to the Bishop, Vicar General, Vicar for Administration, Chancellor, Vice Chancellor and Secretary to the Bishop. He has served St. Brigid of Kildare Parish for the last thirty-two years as an associate priest and pastor. Monsignor Hendricks serves the community on the boards of several local charitable organizations.

We are grateful for Monsignor's service to our community, and proud of his recognition and honor for his many achievements.

Advent Series

Advent is such a beautiful season, but often we get very busy and our lives a bit hectic. I invite you to pause for an hour and come to uncover the beauty of the Waiting Season and give your heart some room to get ready.

During this two session Advent preparation we will sit by the Advent Wreath and hear from Isaiah. We will sit by the manger and listen to Mary and Joseph, a shepherd and one of the magi. We will look at the scripture to see what they continue to say to us in our day and in our time. Bring your Bible at 7:00-8:00 PM in the Berry Room on Tuesdays Dec. 3 and 10 and on Dec. 17 we will be free to go to pray at the Taize Service. No registration required.

The Giving Tree Project FAQs
The Giving Tree is available in the church gathering area this weekend.

General Information
The Giving Tree Project serves 7 agencies/organizations in Franklin County by providing approximately 1800 gifts during the holiday season. The project also requests financial donations for the St. Brigid Emergency Fund which helps our parishioners with needs such as rent payments, car repairs, medical care, and transportation. The Giving Tree Committee begins work on the project during the summer as it takes several months to coordinate and design the project. St. Brigid parishioners have been extremely generous with their support of the project!

Why do the trees appear so early?
It takes several weeks to collect and sort the gifts, to purchase any missing gifts not returned, and to deliver the gifts to the designated organizations. Some of the organizations have their Christmas celebrations in early December.

Why do we purchase some gifts such as bikes which are expensive?
We rely on the organizations we serve to determine the greatest needs for their clients. A bike may serve as transportation to work for a teenager who cannot afford a car. Some parishioners prefer to give larger gifts. In most cases, we ask agencies to list gifts for $50 or less.

Why do we collect money for some groups?
In some cases, gifts are truly a luxury. A meal for a family or transportation for medical treatments is a real need for some organizations such as the Kentucky Mission.

What can I do to support this project?
Please purchase the NEW item(s) stated on your tag - this gift may be the only one received by the recipient during the holiday season. Please attach the ornament/gift tag to the gift, which is either to be unwrapped or in a gift bag (instructions are on the back of each ornament tag). All gifts need to be returned to Hendricks Hall (Immke Room) no later than NOON on Sunday, December 8th. This deadline is very important because deliveries to the organizations begin on Dec. 8th. By taking an ornament off of the Giving Tree, you are making a commitment to the person waiting for that gift. Someone will be looking forward to your generosity during this Christmas season.

Parish Tech Team: Help Needed

We are looking for a few sound engineers or those with a working knowledge of digital sound systems who are willing to help. We need a liaison to work with the installers so speakers are precisely targeted at every seat in the sanctuary. We also need help establishing a base level for the choir loft mixer so that we can get the rich, blended sound we desire.

Finally, we would like to add a few volunteers to a tech team to help monitor sound and lighting at Masses and special events.

If you can help, please contact Becky O'Connor, our Business Manager at 614-761-3734 or [email protected].

Thank you!
