TECHNOLOGY CLASSES

PPL offers the following free computer and technology training classes this month. Whether for personal use or small business application, these basic classes are an opportunity for you to get savvy with the latest web technologies and tools.
 
Registration is required! To register online or for more information, visit www.provlib.org/calendar . If you need assistance, please call 455-8000 after 1 pm.

Ages 14 - adult are welcome!
Classes with less than 5 registrants may be cancelled. Cancelled classes will NOT be rescheduled, 
but will be offered repeatedly.

November Class Schedule 

COMPUTER BASICS - TWO NEW SESSIONS BEGINNING!

Saturdays, Beginning November 3 — 10 am - Noon
Class takes place in PPL's Garden Courtyard'=

Learn the fundamentals of using computers. Get the skills you need to use the Internet, apply for jobs, and more. Six-week class; please register and plan to attend all sessions. 
11/3: Intro to computer equipment (hardware, software, how to turn on, mouse skills)
11/10: Review 1st session including mouse skills, introduce icons, control panel
11/17: Internet Basics
11/24: Internet privacy and security
12/1:  Intro to Email
12/8:  Email, Part II

Fridays, Beginning November 16 — 8:30 - 10 am
Class takes place at netWORKri One-Stop Center, One Reservoir Ave, Providence

COMMUNITY PROGRAM

NEW! Self-Publishing Learning Circle

Wednesdays, Beginning November 7
6 - 7:30 pm
PPL Ship Room

Interested in  learning together  to get your novel, memoir, poetry collection, children's book & more in eBook and print-ready formats?

Join our newest Learning Circle to get started on your journey to self-publishing! No prior knowledge creating an ebook is required, but learners should be comfortable using Microsoft Word or similar word processing program.   NOTE: Participants need a current PPL library card to use the self-publishing tool.  Get a PPL library card .


ESSENTIAL EXCEL Classes Ongoing Weekly, Saturdays

Essential Excel  classes (Parts 1 & 2) will run continuously each Saturday morning from 10 am to Noon at the Providence Campus of Roger Williams University , 1 Empire Street.

We offer two levels of Essential Excel.
Essentials 1 is a two-hour Excel Primer class for people with little to no MS Excel experience.
Essentials 2 is a two hour Excel Primer class for people with some experience, but need to come up to speed in Excel.
 
These classes are recommended for anyone interested in enrolling in PPL's 30-hour
“Data Navigators” program.

Library Transformation News
New in our Temporary Library...As our renovations progress, we are continuing to work on making improvements in our temporary library and services in our Providence Journal Rhode Island Room. We thank everyone for your patience! Some recent changes include:
-- More computing stations (up to 12 now) and reorganization of the computer area
-- A self-hold pickup area
-- A periodical section for browsing
-- A self check-out machine
-- Reconfiguration of the tables for reading and studying
-- Children's Library space
