Date: Thursday, November 14, 2024

Time: 9am - 1pm

Venue: Fiserv Forum

Building Advantage’s annual Construction Career Fair promotes building trades career paths in the commercial construction industry. A variety of hands-on activities from local Union trades and contractors gives high school juniors and seniors the valuable opportunity to better understand the differences and benefits of each of the building trades. We’re proud to promote Union registered apprenticeship and the benefits that this career path brings to individuals and our community. Thank you to everyone that has already registered and sponsored this year's event.

A Contractors Guide to Partnering with Labor Recap

Thank you to all who attended "A Contractors Guide to Partnering with Labor" last month. We were grateful to host representatives from local Unions, contractors and partner organizations. Attendees heard from several insightful speakers and panelists about how building trades Unions function in Milwaukee, current labor and management relations, IRA incentives and much more.

We're proud to provide opportunities for labor and management to connect and build stronger relationships. As was the common theme throughout the event, our industry is stronger when we work together.

Stay tuned for information about our 2025 Contractor Matchmaking event.

Wisconsin Real Estate Fund Presentation

Building Advantage, in partnership with WhiteStar Advisors, was proud to present on the Wisconsin Real Estate Fund at the recent Wisconsin Building Trades Council conference. This fund aims to help developers with their capital stack and will ensure that only Union labor is utilized to build these projects. By investing in projects in Wisconsin, we're growing Union construction's market share and benefitting local workers and communities.

Additional partners are needed to participate in the fund to impact more local projects. Reach out to Chris Mambu Rasch for more information about the fund.

Adjustments to electric, natural gas, and steam rates 5-UR-111

Building Advantage supports the joint application of the Wisconsin Electric Power Company and Wisconsin Gas LLC and their authority to adjust electric, natural gas, and steam rates 5-UR-111. The rate increase application from WEC Energy Group and others is partly driven by the company's substantial investments aimed at ensuring that Southeast Wisconsin—an area served by Building Advantage—remains well-equipped to meet the growing energy demands of local developers and property owners. These projects, in turn, support the employment of our stakeholder Union members and contractors.

Biden-Harris Administration Announce Additional Funding in MKE

President Biden announced additional funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Nearly $100 million in projects are in the works across the City of Milwaukee. As part of these investments, the city has begun replacing 100% of its lead service lines, reducing the timeline for replacement from 60 years to 10 years in alignment with the President’s goal. The funding requires specific apprenticeship hours and collaboration with WRTP|BIG STEP, a Milwaukee Workforce Hub partner.
