Advancements in medicine and technology are helping people live longer than ever and thrive in the face of medical challenges and disabilities, while at the same time they are increasing the number of people who will require long-term care at some point in their lives. These are expenses related to aging or disability that are not generally covered under private insurance and Medicare such as home health care, independent living, or nursing home care. In this seminar led by Steven L. Rubin, Certified Elder Law Attorney, of Drazen Rubin Law in Milford , attendees, their clients, and their families will discover alternative public benefits that may help pay for long-term and disability-related care while learning options to access these benefits without jeopardizing the family’s financial future. Topics discussed will include:

»The difference between Medicare and Medicaid…and why Medicare cannot be relied upon to cover most expenses related to long-term care costs.

» The ins and outs of Medicaid: how to use this program to cover long-term costs and how to qualify—even if you’ve been told you have “too many assets” or “too much income” to be considered.

» How Veterans and spouses who served during a period of war can access additional benefits through the VA to cover long-term care expenses.

» What benefit programs are available for adults & children with disabilities or special needs and how to qualify.

WCSPP ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2019
CLINICAL COMPLEXITIES
How the Therapist's Humanity Interacts with the Therapeutic Ideal

Saturday, November 23, 2019
8:30 am - 3:00 pm
Renaissance Hotel
80 West Red Oak Lane, West Harrison, NY

Keynote Speakers
Irwin Hirsch, Ph.D.
Marc Rehm, Ph.D.
Joyce Slochower, Ph.D.
Joye Weisel-Barth, Ph.D.

The influence of the therapist’s unconscious participation in clinical work has often been examined. This conference will focus instead on the clinical and ethical considerations when therapists are conscious of their needs and desires and consider how their humanity potentially impacts the therapeutic dyad and the patient. Four experienced therapists will present papers illustrating treatments during which they thoughtfully explored how to understand the complex interaction between the therapist’s humanity and the therapeutic ideal.

Approved for 5 CECs by NASW/CT
