Dear Parents and Families,
We continue our school-wide theme of exploring mindfulness as presented in the book I Am Peace. Mrs. Furlong and Mrs. Labay presented to the faculty this month’s topic: gratitude.
Our focus for peace is, "Be Mindful to be Thankful." Numerous studies have proven that being grateful for even the little things leads us to inner peace and joy. As we reflect on the past year, and even our daily lives, we should be grateful for all God has given us: our health, our family and friends, and the list goes on! Children from Pre K3 all the way up to Grade 8 will reflect on the people and events for which they are most grateful. Each grade will complete various age- appropriate activities to showcase their thoughts.
Mrs. Furlong and Mrs. Labay’s lesson exemplifies our commitment to enrich your child’s spiritual, intellectual, physical, emotional and social development. Our goal is to inspire every child to reach his/her fullest potential.
I, the faculty and staff are most grateful to you for entrusting your children to us each day. We appreciate the partnership we have with each of you. Together we will help your child navigate the journey of learning.

Welcome to the 2023-2024 School Year!
The Home and School Association is a group of parent volunteers who assist with the planning of school social and fundraising events, both of which are very important to the CCS community. The fundraising events are an essential part of helping to keep our tuition costs down. In order for HSA events to be successful, volunteers are needed. Volunteering is a rewarding way to meet other CCS families.
There will be a variety of volunteer opportunities throughout the year. For those of you new to the school and/or volunteering with HSA events, there will be volunteers to assist with any questions you may have.
If you have any questions, please email:

Santa’s Workshop
It’s never too early to start thinking about Christmas!! Our Santa’s Workshop, where all students can independently shop for family and friends will be held during school hours on December 11, 12, and 13 this year.
The children will have over 100 delightful gifts to choose from, all ranging in price from $0.50 to $12. This is an amazing opportunity to empower your child to experience the spirit of giving while learning to earn, budget and save. In December, we will send home a list for your child to fill out beforehand, help them shop to select the best items and best of all, presents will come home already wrapped and ready to put under the tree!
We are collecting any unused gifts or donations that we can sell in our shop. If you have any new items that could be re-gifted, we would greatly appreciate the donation!
We are also looking for donations of tape, bows, gift wrap, gift tags and gift bags. If you have any donations, please send them to school at your earliest convenience.
Have some extra time on your hands? We will be looking for volunteers and are so grateful to all that can help! A Sign-Up Genius will be sent closer to the event.
If you have any questions, please reach out to

Dear Parents/ Guardians,
I will be performing hearing and vision screenings during the month of November and
December. This will occur for grades K, 1, 3, 4 and 5. If your child does not pass any of the screenings, I will be contacting you for a referral to your child’s doctor for a follow up appointment just to make sure there isn't an issue.
A reminder to all Parents, Guardians:
If your child is in Preschool he/she is required by State law to have a Flu shot prior to
12/31/2023. Proof of immunization must be passed into the Nurse before this date.
If your child is on catch up Immunizations or is in need of updated immunizations:
These must also be obtained by 12/31/2023 or your child will not be able to return to School after Christmas break per State Law. Proof of immunization must be passed into the nurse before this date.
Several quick reminders:
Please provide another contact person in the event that your child becomes ill or injured or if there is an emergency and we are unable to contact you for pickup or there is a need to transport your child to the hospital because of an emergency.
If your child has been injured and arrives at school with crutches or other devices, a doctor’s note needs to be sent in so that we can accommodate your child and excuse from gym and or allow use of the elevator so we can keep your child safe from any further possible injury.
If you are going away and leaving your child in the care of others you must provide the name and number of the person in charge of caring for your child.. Emergency contact numbers must be given along with permission for pick up. This is extremely important if your child becomes ill or injured and needs pick up or emergency transport to the hospital.
Thank you,
Mrs. Cowan School Nurse
