Our Favorite Feel-Good Story of the Month

Lady came into our care in the spring of 2024 as the result of a court case, arriving with a large mass on her neck. She underwent surgery to remove the tumor, received life-saving heartworm treatment, and was adopted in August 2024. She is now living her very best life with her forever family, who recently sent us a wonderful update on her progress.

"Lady is the easiest dog we’ve ever brought home. She is just SO clearly thankful for love, food, and a warm bed. Never barks. Never chews on things. Never had an accident. Loves everyone she meets. So thankful that the summer reading program for kids brought us in to visit frequently and fall in love with this girl."

November Adoptions

November was a wonderful month for lifesaving outcomes at GMHS. We were thrilled to complete 95 adoptions, helping pets find loving homes just in time for the holiday season. Additionally, 50 pets traveled through our Highway to Home program to partner shelters and rescues, expanding their chances of finding their perfect families. Thanks to our community’s support, dozens of pets are starting new chapters filled with safety, comfort, and love.

The generous support of staff, volunteers, and donors enables GMHS to provide daily care, cover special medical needs, foster animals in homes as needed, and arrange transportation to adoption-guaranteed partners.

As the festive season unfolds, we wanted to keep you in the loop about our operating hours for the end of December and the beginning of January. Your support means the world to us, and we want to ensure you have all the info you need to plan your visit!

Help a homeless pet this holiday season and pick an ornament off our Angel Tree beginning December 2!

The GMHS Angel Tree is located in the shelter's lobby and accessible during normal operating hours. Each ornament features a pet and a wish list item that will make their holidays merry and bright while they await adoption into their forever homes. We are deeply grateful to River Country Pet Loss & Cremation Center for their generous donation to sponsor our new Rainbow Bridge project on the GMHS grounds.

This beautifully painted rainbow bridge will serve as a special place for our community to honor beloved pets who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Families will be able to leave collars and remembrance items in tribute to the pets who filled their lives with love.

Stay tuned for updates as the bridge comes to life! This will be a meaningful space for all who have loved and lost a cherished pet.

Shelter Pet Spotlight - Holly

At sixteen years old, Holly is a soft, mellow soul who deserves all the comfort and love in the world. She’s the kind of cat who curls up quietly beside you, offers slow blinks of trust, and fills your home with a peaceful warmth. Holly gets along beautifully with both dogs and other cats, making her an easy and comforting presence in any household.

Holly does have hyperthyroidism, but don’t let that scare you — her medication is simply mixed into her food twice a day, and she takes it with no fuss at all. What she needs most is a calm, caring person who can give her the stability, affection, and gentle routine every senior kitty deserves.

Whether through adoption or foster, Holly is seeking someone with a big heart to help her live out her golden years in comfort. She may be older, but the love she has to give is timeless.
