FOCUS ON FINALS: TURNITIN

Turnitin is most often known for its ability to deter plagiarism and promote academic integrity in papers. But, did you know you can also have Turnitin review presentations? Turnitin can accept several file types including PowerPoint. Additionally, Turnitin can help streamline grading and feedback for assignments with features such as voice feedback, comments, rubrics, QuickMarks, and linking to the D2L gradebook. Visit Distance Education’s Turnitin webpage for more information including short videos to help you create an assignment, read the students’ originality reports, and provide feedback.
INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN CORNER
Most instructors (by now) are familiar with the process of sharing lecture and instructional videos with their learners using the YuJa video hosting platform. The seamless integration with D2L makes posting a video link in a course shell easy and convenient. But what about sharing your content with colleagues? Yuja gives Instructors the ability to share an individual media files or an entire folder filled with content with as many instructors as they wish using a user-friendly interface. The shared content will immediately appear in the personal YuJa accounts of the recipients, making it easy for them to access and share with their learners. Watch the following short instructional videos to learn how to share your YuJa content with colleagues today!

Winter Term Advising Resources:
Winter Term advising is in full swing, and the DE winter team is here to assist advisers with their advising needs. The following resources help students make informed choices about the classes they take in winter term.
 
Winter Term Checklist: Provides links and instructions on how to register and get started in the term.
 
Winter Term Grade Predictor Calculator: Our grade predictor calculator is a nifty tool that provides students a reasonable estimate of success in winter term courses.
 
Success Tips for Winter Term: These ten tips will ensure students have a successful start in the term.
 
Financial Aid: The Student Financial Aid Office crafted communication that breaks down financial aid requirements for our winter term stakeholders.
 
Important Dates: Winter Term is only four weeks so, students need to stay informed of important dates in the term.
 
December 8 - Confirm classes deadline. OneStop closed from 9 p.m. through 8 a.m.
December 11 - Classes Begin
December 17 - 14th day of processing classes; Last day to drop without record; Last day to receive 75% fee adjustment.
December 28 - Last day to drop with an automatic "W". Last day to receive a 25% fee adjustment.
January 9 - Last day of classes
 
Note: If a student registers for a winter course, they must confirm in the SPRI term to prevent a schedule loss. Consider sharing the registration confirmation video with students who need assistance with confirming their winter schedule.
 
Student Support Services:  Students have access to virtual support services during the winter term.  Advisers might remind students that all on-campus offices and labs will be closed during the winter break.

NEW NC-SARA DATA DASHBOARD
New National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA) Data Dashboard!

NC-SARA developed several interactive data dashboards comprised of enrollment and out-of-state placement data reported to NC SARA by 2,201 participating institutions. The dashboards are an excellent tool to explore exclusive online enrollment data from students that live out of state but attend higher education institutions in TN. In addition, the dashboards provide exclusive online enrollment data from students that live in one state but attend online classes in another state. NC-SARA provides definitions and instructions on how to use the dashboards on their website. Just a reminder, we offer two Laptop Loan programs and a MiFi Loan program for students to complete their coursework. Certain requirements have to be met, so please encourage your students to read the site thoroughly before submitting a support ticket.
