Rights! Camera! Action! Panelist Interviews

Created in 2009, the Rights! Camera! Action! film series features documentaries that focus on human rights-related themes across the globe. Every year, there are four film screenings followed by panel discussions with Duke faculty or students, community activists, and occasionally the film makers.

Our 2024-2025 series is off to a strong start with screenings of "Our Movement Starts Here" and "Bad Faith." Our post-screening panelists spoke with DHRC@FHI interns about student activism, current events, and national human rights issues. Read their interviews below.

Nathan Thrall

Pulitzer Prize-Winning Author

Journalist Nathan Thrall and Professor Rebecca Stein collaborated on a conversation about his latest book: "A Day in the Life of Abed Salama: Anatomy of a Jerusalem Tragedy." The book details the true story of a father and son who navigate the maze of physical, emotional, and bureaucratic obstacles they face as Palestinians.

Gender & Human Rights: Global Perspectives

RIGHTS 380S

Taught by Juliette Duara, the course highlights many challenges to women's rights, including gender based violence and access to healthcare, education, and political participation. It also analyzes the efficacy of various instruments and organizations of the human rights system.
