Hello Nicholas,

Welcome everyone! The holiday season has officially started and I love that. Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years will be here before we know it.

This year has gone by pretty fast, but not without many outstanding photo assignments. I'm always thankful for that. And even though we were gone on a two week road trip recently, there's still much to share from what turned out to be a pretty busy quarter.

Enjoy!

This Chaparral/Vista Murrieta game was an exciting one ... Chaparral was in control for the whole game and won pretty decisively.

This photo is from a previous game this season and was used for a preview story on upcoming games. Always good to see images republished :)

Yep, More football! First game since returning from our short vacation. I think it should be wrapping up soon since we are in playoff season now.

This image, from an earlier game this season, was part of a high school sports roundup of upcoming playoff games and the prediction of who will win. Online only, but always good to see images reused from the season.

A recently published Octoberfest image that Cathy Thomas and I created while working for The Orange County Register. Like I always say, food images are timeless!

Another food image published recently as part of a Halloween soup roundup story by Cathy Thomas. It ran small, but still it's always good to see past food images republished. I appreciate the Staff Photographer byline even though I'm now a freelancer ... it's part of the photo credit attached to the original images.

Samueli Academy

What a great evening this was. I didn't know anything about the Samueli Academy prior to this shoot, but wow, what a great service they offer to foster kids.

Prior to going into a decked out gym, guests were outside enjoying an awesome car show, silent auction and student performance. And when they went inside, there was a lively band, another student performance, speakers, awards given out and a live auction along with dancing after dinner. I saw well known auctioneer Jim Nye turn three 100 dollar bills into $15,000 ... that's crazy. The guests were very generous this night. Below is just a sampling of images from the event.

Road Trip Pics

I may have missed out on a couple friday night football games, but it was so worth it. We traveled through foggy Morro Bay and Half moon Bay, went through Medford and Dallas (both in Oregon), then ended up at our oldest daughter and her fiance's home in Lynnwood, WA. Great family visits in both Oregon and Washington. We then headed back through Mt. Shasta, San Jose and ended our trip with a weekend in Solvang with more family.

In Solvang, we went to a fundraiser and car show put on by the 'Vikings of Solvang'. The fundraiser format was just like so many I photograph in Southern California, but the venue was something different. It was at the Mendenhall Museum which has the coolest collection of vintage neon signs and other car related displays. And the following day there was a huge vintage car show in town. It was a fun way to end our two-week trip.

Below is just a small sampling of some of the vintage signs at the Mendenhall Museum ... pretty cool stuff.

University of San Francisco-Orange County Campus

This shoot was for the UC San Francisco's Nursing school at their OC campus which is on the property of the Sisters of St. Joseph's of Orange. A familiar venue to me.

These were outside headshots of students photographed in a way to match the background style of the one's they currently have.

This is just a sampling of this fun shoot ... lots of smiles!

Florence Sylvester Senior Center

The Florence Sylvester Senior Center in Laguna Hills was packed this morning. There was an awards presentation by Assembly member Diane Dixon (72nd district) to Steven Moyer, the CEO of Age Well Senior Services. And immediately following was a Senior Fraud Prevention Seminar.

The presentations were a California Assembly Resolution and Non-Profit of the Year awards for for Age Well Senior Services. And the fraud prevention seminar, led by Sally Westlake (DFPI - Department of Financial Protection and Innovation) was very well done. The seminar ended with a Q and A with both Sally Westlake (DFPI) and Karen Rossi (Southern California Council on Aging) fielding questions from the guests.

All very useful information to help protect seniors from a large variety of scams that are out there.

Lastly

Well, that's it for this time. It's always an interesting mix of work. Hopefully you enjoy these as much as I like creating them. It's a great way to give my work a second life before being archived.

The holidays are almost here, so we'll see what kind of photography the end of the year brings. In the meantime, stay safe and feel free to drop me a line if you have the time ... it's always great to hear from people who receive these photo centric newsletters.

Also, feel free to share them with anyone you think might enjoy them or may be looking for a photographer. Contact info is below or I can also be reached through my website at www.nicholaskoonphotography.com.
