2017 WHITNEY M. YOUNG, JR. SERVICE AWARD DINNER
The Pathway to Adventure Council hosted it’s ninth-annual Whitney M. Young, Jr. Service Award Dinner on October 26 at the Hyatt Regency Chicago to honor five exemplary Chicagoans for their contributions to inner-city youth.

This year’s honorees were as follows:
  • Anne R. Pramaggiore, President and CEO of ComEd
  • Darryl Dennard, CEO of Double D Productions, Inc. and Public Affairs Director and Host of iHeartRadio Chicago Urban Radio Station
  • Emil Jones Jr., Illinois Senate President from 2003-2009
  • James D. Montgomery, Sr., Managing Partner of JDM Law Offices, James D. Montgomery and Associates, Ltd.
  • Melody Spann-Cooper, Chairman of Midway Broadcasting Company

Support for this event has allowed us to dedicate special funding to provide a Scouting program in the inner city where family structure and economic conditions are deeply strained. The Whitney Dinner Executive Committee was successful in reaching its 2017 goals.

Over 220 people were in attendance. Council Remarks came from Council President Stephen Schwab, as well as recognition to the 2017 Whitney honorees and PTAC goals, all which can be found on the Council’s webpage. CEO Jeff Isaac spoke on Restoring the Village and the diversity of PTAC in terms of the youth, volunteers, board, and professional staff.

Eagle Scout Kyrie Agee gave an outstanding presentation on how Scouting has been a key factor in his life. Currently Kyrie is a freshman student at University of Illinois majoring in biology and minoring in computer science. He intends on serving his community by assisting disaster relief victims in their recovery efforts.

James W. Compton, Whitney M. Young Jr.’s nephew, gave a powerful speech on why Scouting is relevant today. Mr. Compton also captured how Whitney M. Young Jr. supported Scouting and historically the value of Scouting which has impacted the lives of many people of diverse backgrounds during times of change.

On behalf of the Pathway to Adventure Council and the Whitney M. Young Jr. Dinner Executive Committee, we thank everyone for your support in making the 2017 Whitney M. Young Jr. Service Award Dinner an enjoyable evening. We look forward to seeing everyone at the 2018 Whitney Dinner.

TOM SOURLIS AND SUSAN ELEUTERIO HONORED BY SCOUTING AT 25TH ANNUAL DISTINGUISHED CITIZENS DINNER
On November 2, the Pathway to Adventure Council honored Indiana residents Tom Sourlis and his wife Susan Eleuterio as its 2017 Distinguished Citizens.

The Distinguished Citizen Dinner (DCD) recognizes the efforts of local individuals who are making a positive impact on their community through the organizations they actively support and promote in Northwest Indiana and beyond.

“We are honored to present this esteemed couple with the 2017 Distinguished Citizens Award,” said Event Chairman Robert Welsh. “They are pillars of our community and we are pleased to recognize them for their contributions.”

Tom and Sue reside in Highland, IN and have been involved philanthropists outside their selected vocations. Both successful in their own work endeavors, Tom and Sue have made helping those who just need a hand up a lifestyle choice. In addition, they are involved in social justice and identifying ways to improve the lives of others.

A special tribute video was added as a new feature that incorporated the honorees philanthropic interests. Scouting is grateful to the Porter County Community Foundation, opportunity Enterprises, Ivy Tech Community College Society of Innovators, Legacy Foundation, Nazareth Home, The Crisis Center, Tradewinds, Crossroads Fund and First Midwest Bank.

“Tom and Susan are well-deserving of this wonderful honor,” said friend and Distinguished Citizens Dinner committee member David Bochnowski. “They have selflessly donated their time, expertise, energy, and financial resources to our communities for decades.”

Due to the generosity of listed sponsors and the 152 attendees the event was a phenomenal success; raising $56,000.

RESTORING THE VILLAGE INITIATIVE
Pathway to Adventure Council is dedicated to improving the lives of young people and families throughout all of our communities, which is why we are proud to introduce Restoring the Village.

The Restoring the Village program is an impactful partnership between Scouting, community leaders, and at-risk youth. It equips young people in embattled neighborhoods with the values, tools, opportunities, and mentors needed to build a brighter future for themselves and their community.

We invite all of you supporters of Scouting to inquire if this is a program that you would like to invest in. Contact Anna Villarreal at Anna.Villarreal@Scouting.org if you would like to learn more about how you can be part of making a difference in the lives of families that need Scouting.
LASALLE STREET TRADING TECH AWARDS EVENT REACHES NEW HEIGHTS
Reprinted with permission from, Pathway to Adventure volunteer and creator of the Trading Tech 300 program, John J. Lothian.

The LaSalle Street Trading Tech Awards event was a success on November 9 th with over 130 people in attendance to see six scouts honored with the Harlan Ten Pas Award and seven firms honored for participating in the Trading Tech 300 program in the last year.

It was a successful networking event as people mixed and share stories of Scouting and the industry and talked about how to move the Trading Tech 300 program to the next level.

With interest in the program from outside the financial industry, Trading Tech 300 is looking to expand into Med Tech, Law Tech, Construction Tech and Civics Tech, among potential fields.

My goal, which I expressed again at the event, is to make Chicago the STEM capital of the world, AGAIN! Chicago was the STEM capital of the world back in 1893 when the World's Fair in Chicago introduced electricity and the Ferris Wheel to the world, among other things. Someone even mentioned how this mighty goal might be a great way to help attract Amazon's new headquarters to Chicago.

We are making Chicago the STEM capital of the world one Scout at a time through merit badge workshops focused on STEM in our industry, and now beyond.

During EXPO I secured oral agreements from Nasdaq, ICE/NYSE and Fidessa to hold workshops in New York. Anyone else interested?

The event raised $157,000, exceeding the goal of $150K. We are thankful to our sponsors and supporters who contributed to this success. The list includes: ABN AMRO Clearing Chicago, Advantage Futures LLC, Chicago Board Options Exchange, CME Group Inc, Continental Materials Corp, Eurex US, FGMK, LLC, FourStar Wealth Advisors, Mike Dawley, HTG Capital Partners, LLC, Merrill Lynch, Global Wealth & Investment Management, NEX Markets-BrokerTec, OCC, RJ O'Brien, RSM US LLC, Simon Compliance, The Clearing Corporation Charitable Foundation, The Rich Foundation, Thorndyke Sheppard Group, Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith, Inc., Valuation Research Corporation, Wintrust Wealth Management, Woodfield Fund Administration and XR Trading LLC.

Thank you to all who attended the event and who contributed to its past and future success.
