A professional gardener from Flores Artscape will give a talk at the Bob Lucas Branch on using native plants in our garden on Tuesday, Nov. 2 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. The discussion will cover how:
- drought-tolerant and California native plants help the ecosystem
- to plan a drought-tolerant garden
- different irrigation set-ups help save water
- these choices are more cost effective for your garden.

Learn the importance of native plants and our role in the ecosystem from Master Gardener Tahereh Sheerazie and Learning Naturalist Levi Brewster, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20 at the Bob Lucas Branch. In addition to a lecture, participants will help expand our existing demonstration garden with native plants. Gloves, tools and other supplies will be provided. Portals: Pathways to Our Pandemic Escape
Enjoy the artwork of Room 13 students on exhibit in the Reading Court at the Main Library from Nov. 3 to Dec. 17.
Room 13 at Eliot Arts Magnet Academy and Altadena Arts Magnet is an afterschool art program that fosters Creative Expression, Collaboration, Philosophical Inquiry, and Business Enterprise.
Students work in a studio environment with a variety of materials and are guided through different forms of expression by Artist-in-Residence Liane Shih to create their own artwork and develop unique individual voices.

Adult Crafting at Loma Alta Park

Altadena Library is holding an outdoor adult craft session at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 19, in the seating area near the Equestrian Center at Loma Alta Park. Socially distanced tables and seating will be provided for participants who sign up prior to the session. Online registration is required as space is limited to 10 people.

Fall Frolic
Join us for our new nature-based series on the lawn outside the Main Library. Learn how to make amazing art from organic materials, including collages, sun art and pinecone owls! Children and families are welcome. Come early as supplies are limited.

The Altadena Libraries will take a programming and storytime break starting Monday, Nov. 22 through December to prepare for 2022.

Teens 13 to 19 years old are invited to submit documentation of places with personal significance in the form of photos, videos, art, written stories or sound recordings.
To participate, teens review the guidelines and then submit materials and the form. They can submit materials digitally or in-person.

French Read With Me Kits Now Available
Altadena Library has added 5 new French language kits to our Read With Me picture book kit collection. Themes covered are Community, Nature, Counting, Colors and Shapes, and the Alphabet. Each kit includes early literacy tips for parents and caregivers, as well as 5 to 8 French and English/French bilingual picture books for reading with toddlers, preschoolers, and young elementary aged children.
