On November 2nd, more than 350 guests turned up in their most blinged-out formalwear to generously support Encompass programs for children and families in our community at the 2019 Encompass Autumn Gala. Shellie Hart once again entertained guests with her commentary throughout the evening, and Encompass Executive Director Nela Cumming took to the podium to talk about the work Encompass does to be welcoming, kind, and treat everyone with respect.
The highlight of the evening came when family speakers Sara and Lyone York shared their emotional story about raising their daughter Paisley, a seven-year-old who suffers from Rett syndrome. "We came to Encompass as first-time parents with many questions and very few answers," they told the audience. "They gave us the tools and support we needed to help Paisley live her very best life."

Thank you to all our sponsors, donors, guests, and volunteers for helping make the Gala our best yet! This event would not have been possible without the support of corporate sponsors like Brown & Sterling Attorneys at Law, Nintendo, and The Siwek Team.

Blog Post: What is Selective Mutism?
Have you heard of selective mutism? Selective mutism is a severe anxiety disorder that is often mistaken for shyness in early childhood. It can be debilitating and can leave children’s needs unmet, as they cannot communicate hunger, pain, or the need to go to the restroom.

In our most recent blog post, Encompass Family Resource Coordinator Andrea Amstutz details what selective mutism is and what you can do to interact with children who show signs of selective mutism.
