Ag in the Classroom Educator Development Workshop

On Friday, October 10, the Steuben County Agriculture in the Classroom program hosted an educator development workshop in collaboration with New York State Dairy in the Classroom, HP Hood, and Lismore Dairy. This event, which drew 28 educators from across the region, was aimed at educating local teachers about the dairy industry and giving them ideas for how to incorporate dairy and agriculture education in their classrooms.

They started with a tour of the HP Hood dairy processing plant in Arkport, NY where those in attendance were able to see how Heluva Good! Dip is made. Later, the workshop continued with a tour of Lismore Dairy that took the teachers through the farm’s operations including a look at their 100-cow rotary parlor.

The second half of the day was spent working in hands-on milk labs making dairy products including cottage cheese, butter, buttermilk, and sour cream. The educators also took part in a mac and cheese challenge where they created their own macaroni and cheese recipe and designed marketing materials to promote their mac and cheese product.

Two 4-H Makers Markets on Nov 22!

That’s a Wrap! The 2025 Veggie Van Season in Steuben County

The 2025 Veggie Van season has officially wrapped up here in Steuben County! This year, the Veggie Van made stops at seven sites across six towns, including Prattsburgh, Bath, Corning, Addison, Hornell, and Canisteo, bringing fresh, local produce right to our neighbors.

Throughout the season, the Veggie Van sold approximately $16,595 in fresh produce! Nearly half (49%) of those sales came from Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) checks, which are coupons that help local seniors buy healthy, farm-fresh foods. Thanks to the Veggie Van, CCE Steuben, and our amazing local farmers, we were able to bring the farmers’ market experience directly to our seniors, making it easier than ever to enjoy fresh, local produce.

These numbers show just how much our community values healthy eating and supporting local farms.

A big thank-you goes out to the incredible farmers who made this all possible: Lowery Family Farms, Habee Farms, and Bluebird Trail Farm. Your hard work and dedication help keep our community strong, healthy, and well-fed.
