Transportation and Logistics Consortium (TALC) Program Launch
Employ Prince George's is proud to announce our new Transportation and Logistics Consortium (#TALC) Industry Bridge Program. In partnership with Jobs for the Future (#JFF) and #Prologis, Inc. (NYSE: PLD), the global leader in logistics real estate, the TALC program will help residents in Prince George's County, and the surrounding District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia Region (DMV), gain the necessary skills for jobs and placement in the Transportation, Distribution, Warehousing, and Logistics Industries.

With companies facing challenges in finding and retaining workers, TALC will feature traditional in-person training and Prologis' free online training designed to help job seekers develop the foundational knowledge and skills in demand in the transportation and warehousing industries. The self-paced program is available on mobile devices and complements the job placement support services that Employ Prince George's provides. The program will also assist job seekers in obtaining commercial driver's licenses, CDL A and CDL B, to help with a regional shortage of drivers.

Along with online and in-person skills training, the TALC Industry Bridge Program will assist returning citizens (ex-offenders) and disconnected youth (young adults ages 18 - 24 not enrolled in educational programs and unemployed). TALC will pay eligible participants $15 - $20 per hour for up to 35 hours per week. Participants will get paid while working to develop their work experience and skills and get paid for their skills training hours.

The Transportation and Logistics Consortium program is available today. To learn more about the initiative and enroll, please visit: www.EmployPG.org/TALC or contact us at WSD@co.pg.md.us and 301-618-8445.

EPG's COVID-19 Rapid Re-Employment
Grants Initiative
In November of 2020, Employ Prince George's launched the COVID-19 Rapid
Re-Employment Grants initiative to encourage DC Metropolitan Region businesses to hire currently unemployed Prince George's County residents. EPG is excited to relaunch this initiative in September 2021 to provide financial assistance to businesses over an extended deadline.

The COVID-19 Workforce Development Recovery Program's Rapid Re-Employment Grants were created to ease the financial burden of onboarding new employees for local businesses. Employ Prince George's Rapid Re-Employment Grants provide funding for companies that hire unemployed Prince George's County residents and supplement 50%-75% of their new hires' salary. Grants are awarded on the first day of a new employee's first day of work, and the maximum grant per new employee is $15,000.

PGC 311 Updates
Prince Georgians deserve an efficient experience when engaging with their local government, which is why the Office of Community Relations adopted a new collaborative system. This system has made submitting service requests and finding information easier than ever. Residents can now submit service requests 24/7 through the new mobile app, desktop web portal, or by calling the PGC311 Call Center. And that’s not all! Here are some key features:

  •  Real-time updates: Previously, when you submitted a service request, you would get a message letting you know the request was submitted and then wait for someone to service your ticket. Now, you'll be able to submit your service ticket and receive real-time updates about when your ticket was received, the expected completion date, and an alert after the ticket is completed and closed.
  • Knowledge articles: You’ll now have short articles that will help you process your service request and let you know what you need to do to be sure there is no delay in completing your request. We will also feature articles that allow you to quickly get answers to commonly asked questions.
  • Easily submit a service request: When submitting your service request, you can now submit pictures to help us better understand what needs to be serviced and where.

The goal of the County is to continue providing residents with exceptional service and bring new technologies to help them easily engage with the County government. The office of Community Relations wants residents to be Prince George’s County Proud, so feedback is welcomed. If you’d like to learn more, please visit ocr.mypgc.us/PGC311.

Flush with options and frustrated after laboring through lockdowns, workers are feeling a sense of possibility. Some are resigning. Some are waiting for a prime gig. Others are flexing their muscles — requesting raises or remote work options — while still clocking in. Employers are noting the jump in demands and in some cases catering to it, during a shift in power they realize may be long-lasting.
