Equity Alliance Tool Kit
The holidays are a time when families and friends gather together to celebrate the season. Sometimes these gatherings bring together people with differing perspectives, and can lead to challenging conversations. We want to share with you a simple tool for reframing conversations around race and equity that hopefully elicit more positive and productive responses, and fewer disastrous family dinners.
GARE Series Culmination
For 15 months, seven cohorts from higher education, local government, and nonprofit sectors received training and coaching from the Government Alliance on Race and Equity (GARE) . Participants learned about racial equity, and gained tools and knowledge to evolve their policies and practices to promote equity and inclusion in their organizations. The culminating session of this coaching series was held on November 2.

A special thank you to our inspiring coaches, Julie Nelson and Dwayne Marsh of GARE, and Glenn Harris of Race Forward, previously the Center for Social Inclusion, for guiding our cohorts through this process.

We would also like to express our gratitude and appreciation for all of the individuals and organizations who committed time, energy, and passion to participate in the GARE series, and for their continued commitment to equity, inclusion, and justice in our communities.

The next phase of this work will involve further collaboration and implementation of racial equity action plans, with cohorts meeting in early 2018 to identify next steps.

"Participating in the racial equity work gave us a common toolbox with each other and with other county partners in addressing the challenges and opportunities in our community."

-Kerry Venegas, Executive Director Changing Tides Family Services and GARE participant
