LET'S TALK ABOUT BEDTIME!

Let’s talk, read and sing about BEDTIME! When our little ones are sleeping, their brains are busy building connections! Sleep is important for brain development, learning, and

physical development.

For more ideas on how to talk, read, and sing together about BEDTIME: TALKING IS TEACHING

Books are a wonderful way to start a discussion on a specific subject with your little one, like BEDTIME. Talking is Teaching has a great list of recommended books, but also visit your local library and ask your librarian for ideas.

COMMUNITY RESOURCES

Kindergarten Readiness Goal:

  • Do a somersault and hop.
  • Suggests solutions to social problems.
  • Writes strings of letters, not necessarily words.
  • Uses numbers to compare, knows the purpose of standard measuring tools.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Earth's environment (seasons, weather, day and night)

HEALTHY FOOD

Cooking Matters Recipe:

FRUIT AND YOGURT MIX

15 Minutes 4 Servings

Create a before bedtime snack that is healthy and yummy! Let your child mix the ingredients together and together count the cuts made for each fruit.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup nonfat plain yogurt
  • 1 Tablespoon honey
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions:

  1. In a medium bowl, combine all ingredients.
  2. Mix well.

Chef’s Notes:

  • For a tangy treat, try adding 1 teaspoon lemon or lime zest instead of cinnamon. Zest fruit using the small holes on a box grater.
  • If you use vanilla yogurt, do not add honey to recipe.
  • Serve as a dip with any cut-up fruits you like. Try apples, kiwis, bananas, grapes, or strawberries. For best price, buy fruits in season.

AT HOME STEAM ACTIVITIES

Imagination Library

Educators have long identified preschool reading and parent involvement as among the most important steps toward a child's success in school. Simply, reading aloud is one of the most important things parents and care-givers can do. Bay-Arenac ISD and educators throughout the seven local districts in our communities embrace the concept of preschool reading as integral to student success. Through affiliation with Imagination Library, all of our children in Arenac and Bay counties would receive an age-appropriate, hardcover book, mailed to their homes each month of their lives from birth to their fifth birthday.

If you have a child between the ages of birth to five and would like to register to receive the free books you can register online or by printing the brochure and mail the completed brochure with signature to:

CHILD CARE PROVIDER RESOURCES

Michigan Tri-Share

The MI Tri-Share Child Care Program (Tri-Share) is an innovative approach to increasing access to high quality, affordable child care for working families, with the cost of child care shared by an employer, the employee and the State of Michigan. The pilot also seeks to increase the labor market by allowing employers to offer a child care subsidy to help retain and attract talent.

Caring for MI Future

This is a statewide effort to help child care entrepreneurs open 1,000 new or expanded child care programs by the end of 2024. This initiative, led by the Michigan Departments of Education and Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (MDE & LARA) is focusing on what entrepreneurs need most to open and expand child care businesses—help finding and renovating space, startup funding, help recruiting staff, and support creating a business plan.

STEM Passport - Calendar

You and your child can explore STEM Passport locations and events in the Great Lakes Bay Region (GLBR) by accessing our STEM calendar. The GLBR is home to a variety of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) destinations and programs. Afterschool programs help children learn, grow, discover who they are and what they love to do, and ultimately realize their full potential. They enhance a child’s foundational skills, like communication, teamwork, and problem solving, and prepare them for the jobs of tomorrow. Research shows that this added participation in afterschool programs sparks interest in school so students attend school more often, get better grades, and are more likely to graduate.
