Nov. 3 - Dr. Emma Wakefield-Paillet Marker Unveiling - Celebrate the life and legacy of Emma Wakefield-Paillet, MD with a day of festivities. At 10 a.m., the state historic marker will be unveiled at Bouligny Plaza accompanied with the reading of an original poem by Dr. Darrell Bourque, Louisiana Poet Laureate, and singing. At 11 a.m., a reception will be held at the Iberia Parish Courthouse where an original work of art will be on display. At 2 p.m., an original composition and play will be performed at the Essanee Theater. Those attending the unveiling are encouraged to bring lawn chairs as seating will be limited. Nov. 7 - Fragile Grounds - Jessica Schexnayder and Mary Manhein, authors of the book Fragile Grounds: Louisiana’s Endangered Cemeteries, will discuss stories of endangered cemeteries throughout Louisiana's coastal zone and beyond. These burial places link the fragile land to the frailty of the state's threatened community structures. A book signing will follow the presentation.
