2017 State of the City: On the Move in Rancho Cordova

Thank you for joining us at this year's State of the City! Those in attendance heard about the many ways Rancho Cordova is a city on the move--from crime decreasing by 31.5%, to new housing and businesses being built, to $30 million in improvements to public infrastructure, and much more. The  2016-2017 Community Enhancement Fund Citizen Report,  which details projects funded through the City's Community Enhancement Fund, also was unveiled. The report will be mailed to all City residents this month.

Rancho Cordova Police Department Announces Decrease in Crime

The City and the Rancho Cordova Police Department (RCPD) announced that violent crime and property crime combined decreased by 31.5% from 2011-2016 when adjusted for population. This significant decrease can be attributed to RCPD's proactive policing programs:
  • Crime Suppression Unit, a highly proactive team that focuses on enforcement  by using crime data, trends and tips from residents
  • Problem Oriented Policing Unit, a team of officers assigned to areas throughout Rancho Cordova to improve quality of life
  • Neighborhood policing program, a team of patrol officers assigned to each neighborhood in Rancho Cordova to address public safety concerns
RCPD's community policing model of building relationships with the community furthers crime prevention.

Public Works for You

2017 Street Rehabilitation Project
In October, the City completed the 2017 Street Rehabilitation Project in the Cordova Meadows, Raven Oaks and Tiffany neighborhoods. More than 50 residents attended a neighborhood event to celebrate the project that featured a ribbon cutting, dinner and dessert, face painting and balloons, music and more.

Project improvements included 44 streets paved, 87 curb ramps upgraded, 79 drainage locations upgraded, and 5,440 square feet of sidewalk repaired. The project improves driver and pedestrian safety, improves the walkability of the neighborhoods, and enhances accessibility for residents in the neighborhoods. The project was supported by a $500,000 grant from the City's Community Enhancement Fund. Learn More

The passport, valued at $60, will be available to any guest staying at a Rancho Cordova hotel through December 31, 2017.

Christmas in Cordova

Organized by the Rancho Cordova Police Activities League, Rancho Cordova's 7th annual Christmas in Cordova event returns on December 16th. This event supports local families by providing a "shopping mall" filled with new toys for parents to select and wrap for their children, at no cost to them. We are currently seeking volunteers and new, unwrapped toy donations to make this a truly special holiday event!
