Farewell from Ruth Ann...

Ruth Ann presenting Mwee Wah and Hay Moo with their new house keys - December 2021

From the beginning of my volunteer work and subsequent employment at Tri-County Partners Habitat for Humanity, I have been blessed by working with incredible volunteers, staff, homeowners, and partners in our community.

There are so many kind, generous people in the Habitat orbit, it would be difficult to thank them all. But because we are focused on making an impact in the community by providing affordable housing, I will focus on the families I have come to know.

On occasion in the last 3+ years, I had the opportunity to work alongside homeowner families as they completed their sweat equity requirements, and many times would return just to have a chat and check in.

One of my fondest memories was working with a family to install the sprinkler system in their backyard.

My husband Leo joined me one Saturday afternoon working alongside the whole family, laughing at mishaps, and sharing a meal with them afterwards.

On one occasion while speaking to a homeowner over the phone, I noticed a constant beeping every few seconds and asked if that was their smoke alarm. They said yes and they had not been able to silence it by replacing the batteries.  It had been beeping for two years! After we replaced the whole smoke alarm, it took them a while to get used to the silence!

By assisting in any way helpful, we build trust and a strong partnership that hold up during more stressful times or situations. During COVID, some of our families had financial hardships and needed mortgage payment relief and because they trusted us, they were able to ask for help.

It was always an honor to hand over the keys at a dedication, knowing how far and how hard each family worked to get to this moment. There is a lot to juggle in normal life and when you add 500 hours of sweat equity to the mix, it may seem like an overwhelming task. But our families have all stepped up and completed them.

Before dedication, part of the job as Family Services Coordinator is to pull together all the required documents and finalize the closing. It is at this time when the relationship we have built over the past 18 or so months comes into play. The final closing process is stressful as we ask for more detailed information and required documents. They often must return to the office several times to do this or attend meetings. I often joked that I was positive the families had had enough of me at this point!

My family has volunteered and worked for Habitat in their effort to help me. My husband with excel worksheets, furniture projects for the store, and assistance with homeowner projects. My daughter worked for the Habitat Restore. My grandkids even Swiffered the floors one afternoon before a home dedication.

All this is proof that it takes a village to raise a family or a roof!

I am honored and blessed to have been part of Habitat’s village and will continue to volunteer as I truly believe a safe place to land and call home is essential to thriving families.

Thanks to you all!

Ruth Ann

Construction
~Pasco~

Alvina St Lot #2 The exterior of this home is nearly finished. We will insulate, install drywall, and complete drywall finishing throughout November, so that we can start laying floors in December. The dedication date for this home is January 14, 2023.

Alvina St Lot #1 Framing is just beginning on this lot. The Tri-Tech Construction class will be joined by the Tri-Tech Firefighting class the first week of November. Together they will finish framing and stand all the walls in one week. We are aiming to turn this home over to the new homeowners in early spring 2023.

N Wehe AveThe infrastructure is in at the site on Wehe, and the contractor is nearly ready to pave the street. The permit application for the first home has been submitted to the city and we hope to dig our first foundation by the end of November, to be ready for the Tri-Tech crew to start framing in December.
