November Happenings

It's November, which means planning is well underway for our annual Basket Raffle! Spectacular gift baskets will be on display in the Library from Nov. 16-Dec. 5. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the Library throughout that time. You will also be able to view the baskets and enter online. The drawing will be held on Dec. 5. Stay tuned for all the details!

Thanksgiving is just around the corner! The Library will close at 5pm on Wed, Nov 25 and will be closed all day Thu, Nov 26, in observance of the holiday.

November 3rd is the General Election. Click here to view our Voter Information page for a list of important dates, links to local and state voting resources, and sites to help voters be informed (the info sheet is also available on our web site and at the Library). The Library is a Ballot Drop Box location for elections. The box is located inside the Library near the front desk. There is a handicap entrance at the rear of the building. We close at 5pm on Election Day so be sure to drop off your ballot before that time.

This month the Barrett Township Historical Society display case features artifacts and info from the Paradise Historical Society. Items from the Henryville House, Paradise Brook Trout, Western Union, and other memorabilia will take you back to times long gone. View the display through November.

Join us at the Library on Friday, November 20, for the Barrett Township Historical Society program "Quilts of the Revolutionary Period," presented by Jackie Magann, a Bicentennial Living History Volunteer

at Valley Forge National Park. The program begins at 2pm in the Weiler Family Community Room.

The science writer Michael Pollan wrote that “art can reveal the deep strangeness of things we take for granted.” With that idea in mind, Carol Hillestad’s new exhibit at the library presents 30 photos of what she calls “the faces of trees” — oddities of imagination as much as they are documents of reality. Whatever else they may inspire in you, one or two of the photos will likely make you smile. On view through November 30 in the Weiler Room.

**Fri, Nov. 6, 4pm-6pm: Stop by to chat with Carol about her photography display and enjoy some light refreshments**

So far, there are over 200 images from the early 1900s (many of the Cottages) and Buck Hill Breeze issues from the 1920s, ‘30s, and ‘40s. The archives web site and the project are a work in progress; come back often to see what's been added.
