ENSHRINEMENT WEEKEND
IN SANTA CLARA
On Saturday night, October 29th 2016, the 52nd annual ISHOF Induction Dinner was held at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, CA. The prestigious class of 2016 included: Elena Azarova (RUS) Synchronized Swimmer; Simeon Boychenko (RUS) - Pioneer Swimmer, represented by his daughter Oksana; Frank Gorman (USA) - Pioneer Diver; Sir Peter Heatly (GBR) -Contributor, represented by son Peter, Jr.; The 3x Olympic gold medal-winning Hungarian Water Polo Team, consisting of Tibor Benedek, Tamas Molnar, Tamas Kasas, Peter Biros, Gergely Kiss, Zoltan Szecsi and coach Denes Kemeny, Camille Muffat (FRA) - Honor Swimmer, represented by her mother and brother; Sir Desmond Renford (AUS) - Honor Open Water Swimmer, represented by his son Michael; Aaron Peirsol (USA) - Honor Swimmer; Dara Torres (USA) - Honor Swimmer, Monique Wildschut (NED) - Honor Swimmer and Tod Spieker (USA) - ISHOF Gold Medallion.

2016 ISHOF and PARAGON AWARDS
Presented by Pentair Aquatic Systems
On Friday evening, October 28, the 21st annual Paragon Awards were held in Santa Clara as part of the International Swimming Hall of Fame's 52nd Annual Honoree weekend. The Paragon Awards are presented by the Pentair Corporation. Pictured are (L-R): Glenn Mills (Competitive Swimming), Andy Burke (accepting for the late Dr. Barbara Kalbus' contributions to water polo), Debbie Hesse (USA Swimming Foundation for contributions to water safety), Ulla Soili Marjatta Lucenius (from Finland, for contributions to synchronized swimming), Henry Powell (John K. Williams International Adapted Aquatics Award), Julie Checkoway (Dawson Author's Award for her Book, "The Three Year Swim Club"), Dr. Jane Katz (G. ALICE IN "WATERLAND"
International Swimming Hall of Fame Aquatics Show Hosted by Santa Clara Aquamaids
Scenes from "Alice in Wonderland" played out under water Saturday as the Santa Clara Aquamaids performed a unique rendition of the fantastical children's novel and film.
Hosted in partnership with the International Swimming Hall of Fame, the show included routines by the Aquamaids, guest swimmers from Cirque Du Soleil and the comedic Dana Kunze Divers.

2016 INTERNATIONAL MARATHON HALL OF FAME INDUCTION
The 2016 International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony took place in San Pedro, California USA on November 4th 2016. All four inductees were in attendance: Honor Contributor Charlie Gravett (GBR), Honor Swimmers Attila Mányoki (HUN), Chloë McCardel (AUS) and Tomi Stefanovski (MKD). Dale Petranech was the first recipient of the Dale Petranech Award for Service to the IMSHOF.

NEW ACQUISITIONS
1984 Olympic Parade Uniform and gold medal
Dmitry Volkov presents his 1984 Soviet Union Olympic parade uniform and gold medal from the "Soviet alternative Olympics" of 1984 to Bruce Wigo and John Naber. The political boycotts of the 1980's almost destroyed the Olympic Games and also affected the dreams of athletes east and west alike. Sometimes we in the west think it was only our athletes who were negatively affected, but eastern block athletes were likewise impacted. A breaststroker, Dmitry was able to fulfill his Olympic dreams reaching the podium three times in 1988 and 1992.

Gurney Godfrey Scrapbooks, donated to ISHOF by Liz Mader
Gurney Godfrey was a well-known swimmer and diver at the Buffalo (NY) YMCA in the early 1920's. The scrapbooks contain a
treasure trove of photos and news articles from the era, not only locally, but nationally and internationally, with many original photos and articles of the stars of the day. An example is this studio photo of Gurney, with his "friend and pal," the sensational George Young, winner of the 1927 William Wrigley Ocean Marathon.

2016 GOLDEN GOGGLES
Legendary Sports Illustrated photographer Heinz Kluetmeier and Olympic great Aaron Peirsol were stylishly dressed at the Golden Goggles - sporting the ISHOF Bow Tie. Heinz has photographed swimming since the Munich Olympic Games and captured the sports photo of the year in 2008, documenting the finish of the men's 100m butterfly.

PASSINGS
CONRAD WENNERBERG,
died at his home on September 8, 2016.
Wennerberg was born in Chicago on June 20, 1932 and was introduced to
swimming in Lake Michigan at the age of four. He was accepted into medical school at the University of Chicago, with an interest and focus on what would later become known as sports medicine, before he became interested in marathon swimming.
In 1974, he wrote "Wind, Waves, and Sunburn," a book chronicling the history of marathon swimming. He was inducted into the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in 1977. More
MARIE KELLEHER,
FIRST US 100+ USMS Swimmer
dies at 103.
Whether it was keeping things in order at the family business or setting records in competitive swimming, age was no obstacle for Marie Krafft Kelleher. Even after she reached age 100, Mrs. Kelleher
