Giving Veterans a Reason to Smile


Hadren Simmons only left Newark, his hometown, to serve his country after high school graduation. In 1961, he was assigned to the U.S. Army Signal Corps, which took him to other states and Germany before he returned home after three years. A long-time patient of RSDM, he remembers the day the College of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, now RSDM, moved to Newark.

Patented Scientist-Inventor


We've all run into situations where we wished something worked differently. When that happens to Associate Professor of Oral Biology Scott Kachlany, he often goes the extra mile to figure out a solution. "I like to tell people I'm a scientist, and I'm mostly an inventor," he said. "In research, you're inventing ways of doing new things, whether it's an experiment, device, tool or a therapy."

Providing Care For Veterans


Glenn Ford came to RSDM after losing between 14 to 16 teeth. Halfway through his treatment, he ran into an obstacle with finances. With the help of his student doctor, Brett Chappell of the Class of 2025, Glenn became a patient at the school's Vet Smiles Program.

A Halloween tradition, Pediatric Dentistry Department dressed up for the day!

RSDMers volunteered at the Special Olympics New Jersey to help athletes have healthier smiles.

RSDM faculty and staff attended the Rutgers Health Equity Progress Showcase held on October 29th in New Brunswick. They presented the RSDM-led Building Bridges for Impact and Growth initiative.

Assistant Professor of Pediatric Dentistry Mary Beth Giacona, together with RSDM students Nicole Tobia (left) and Katie Roeder (right), spoke about dentistry at the Monroe Township High School. 

Associate Dean for Admissions Rosa Chaviano-Moran gave a talk at the International Federation of Dental Schools and Faculties Conference in Spain.
