Here we are approaching the close of the Church’s liturgical year!
Advent is just around the corner. With the exception of the last day, the entire month of November falls within Ordinary Time, symbolized by the liturgical color green. This color represents hope—the hope of new life, like the sprouting seed, and the hope of the eternal harvest of Heaven. In this season, the Church invites us to look ahead with faithful expectation, especially toward the glorious resurrection.
This is why November is traditionally dedicated to the Souls in Purgatory—those who are undergoing final purification before entering Heaven. With All Saints Day (November 1st) and All Souls Day (November 2nd) marking the start of the month, we are reminded to pray for the faithful departed with the beautiful prayer:
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May we find comfort in knowing that our loved ones are on their journey toward eternal life.
This month in our Joy of the Family blog, we invite you to read a touching testimony from Cathy Loh, our cherished leader of the MFLFFYM family. Cathy shares her personal story of life, death, and new beginnings—a heartfelt reminder that God is with us in every moment, offering us a hope that does not disappoint. (Fair warning: you may want to keep some tissues nearby.)
As we move through this season, there is so much happening in our local parishes. Be sure to check out the Special Events and Home & School sections of this e-news for updates, ideas, and ways to live liturgically throughout November. Let’s embrace this month as a time of thanksgiving, with joyful hearts and creative ways to grow in faith as a family.
We’d love to hear from you! Let us know how we can better support you and your parish in our shared mission of evangelization—to bring others to an encounter with Christ and into deepen appreciation for our rich Catholic faith.
