Did You Remember to Feed Your Lawn?

Applying Winter Survival Lawn Food in the fall will strengthen your grass plant roots, giving them a strong base on which to thrive next spring. By helping roots grow before winter sets in, you are insuring that the lawn will green-up quicker in the spring and become more resistant to disease and drought. A thick, healthy, lawn also means less crabgrass because crabgrass problems are minimized due to a healthy, dense turf. Check with your local municipality for possible fertilizer application black out dates.

Check Your Soil pH

November is a great month to check the pH of your soil. If you need to adjust your soil pH, fall precipitation will help work Mag-I-Cal into the soil as rainwater moves through it. Cycles of freezing and thawing also help to open tiny cracks in the soil and move Mag-I-Cal into the soil. This helps prepare the soil for more optimal conditions for grass growth in the spring. T he ideal pH range to grow grass is 6.2 to 7.0. Use Mag-I-Cal for acidic soils if your pH is low, and Mag-I-Cal for alkaline soils if your pH is high. These applications may be needed more than once per year if your pH is out of range.

Reminder!

Move your mowing height slowly down to 2 inches for the last cut of the season. This will help prevent snow mold caused by the grass laying over and trapping moisture. Try to minimize foot traffic after a freeze to minimize damage to the grass plant.
