ENGINEERING DESIGN CHALLENGE
In partnership with Ten80 Education , SHPE is proud to offer the Pre-College Engineering Design Challenge . The all-day competition includes three hands-on STEM activities which apply robotics, coding, design, and entrepreneurship elements. Participants rotate between three different exciting workshops with the final challenge of competing against fellow classmates in a pit stop challenge and relay race.

Participants cultivate teamwork and leadership skills while exploring fundamental variables in race performance, the fundamentals of binary code, and the concept of design and how it applies to many different careers. These concepts are put to work by designing a table-top or computer game that could actually go into production.

SHPE ON THE ROAD
SHPE National was invited by Congresswoman Julia Brownley to participate in the HACKATHON Congressional App Challenge on October 14 at Pacifica High School in Oxnard, CA. Middle school and high school students from California’s 26th Congressional District learned about Why STEM is COOL!
Congrats to The 50K Coalition for winning NACME's 2017 Diversity Vision Award! SHPE CEO Raquel Tamez celebrated the honor with the CEOs of AISES, SWE, and NSBE at the NACME Awards Gala on October 18. The 50K Coalition has a goal of graduating 50,000 diverse engineers annually by 2025.
We're honored that SHPE CEO, Raquel Tamez, was invited to be the keynote speaker at #ARL25. The diverse scientists, technologists and engineers at the U.S. Army Research Laboratory (ARL) create a collaborative petri dish of geniuses in STEM. Read more about the 25 Years of Excellence in Science and Technology event.
SHPE also made a stop at SWE17 in Austin, TX last week, to check out the world's largest conference and career fair for women in engineering and technology, put on by the Society of Women Engineers. Our own Monique Ventura and #SHPEtina Ximena Aristizabal are pictured here representing SHPE.
