November 2018
Notes from the President's Desk
While November marks a busy month at the Chamber, it also rings in the beginning of the busy shopping season. We remind you to support local small businesses and participate in Shop Small Saturday, which falls this year on November 24. As well, we ask you to continue shopping locally throughout the shopping season. We highly encourage support between Chamber members when shopping or doing any kind of business, and a perfect example of how you can support other members is by patronizing our new M2M Deals program. You'll be receiving your M2M cards over the next 2 weeks, and we could not be more excited about the launch of this program. Look below for more details on M2M.

As always, we invite you to support your fellow chamber members by attending the upcoming ribbon cutting celebrations, Business After Hours, and the member events listed online on our Community Events Calendar.

Local Veterans Day Activities
Veterans Day is observed this year on Monday, November 12, and the Golden Isles will honor our military veterans with the Annual Veterans Day Parade on St. Simons Island. This popular parade always packs a large crowd and will start on Mallery Street at 10:30 AM, then will make its way to the Casino, where a salute to veterans ceremony will take place at 11:00 AM.

Immediately following the ceremony, the Veterans Day Appreciation Lunch will be held at the Casino Atrium, presented by Hospice of the Golden Isles, Southern Soul BBQ, and Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Hodnett Cooper Real Estate.  Lunch is provided free to military veterans and active military, and a suggested $5 donation to non-military.

Don't miss the opportunity to participate in these exciting Veterans Day activities.

I'm a Chamber Member. Now What?
Article Five in a Six-Article Series

Have you recently joined the Chamber? Maybe you're overwhelmed by the number of benefits. How do you go about exploring the components of chamber membership that are most beneficial to you and your business? What if there are things you could benefit from that you know nothing about? Or maybe you're wondering when you're going to see your first new customer...any minute, right? Over the next six MemberNets, we will explore different aspects of the chamber and ways you can maximize your chamber membership, in excerpts from an article by chamber expert Christina R. Green.

Another reason to seek a chamber membership is to be able to associate with like-minded business people. If that's your goal, consider the following benefits:

  • Seek out a mentor. The chamber can easily put you in touch with peers. Being a business professional these days can be a lonely position. Meeting others in your industry, career level, or those with similar aspirations can be very inspiring.

  • Attend networking events. These come in a variety of times and agendas. There are daytime events, after hours events, and some morning events. If you want to meet more people, show up and bring business cards.

  • Join the conversation on social media. Become a part of the online community and comment on the chamber's Facebook page, Instagram page, and others' posts. Be helpful. Give compliments. When you do it consistently, you'll get to know others in the chamber even if you can't attend networking events.
Reminder: Download the Chamber App!
