Dear Parents, Students, Faculty, Staff, Performers, and Volunteers,

We are excited that New Haven Ballet (NHB) will once more be performing The Nutcracker at the prestigious Shubert Theater this year. Everyone has been working hard in rehearsals to master exciting new choreography and help bring The Nutcracker to life. This year's production will feature over 240 dancers. And we are thrilled to be performing with the New Haven Ballet Orchestra, under the direction of conductor Richard Gard, as well as with New York City Ballet Principal dancer Maria Kowroski and former Principal dancer Charles Askegard as the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier. As in past years, this performance is made possible thanks to the generous contributions from you, our many NHB families, patrons, and area businesses.

Thank you to those who have dedicated time and energy to the production. Together, we can light up the lives of so many with this holiday classic. We look forward to seeing you all at the Shubert Theater December 13-15, 2013, for NHB's production of The Nutcracker!

Sincerely yours,

Lisa Sanborn

Faculty Highlight: Emily Adams

Please meet one of NHB's newest faculty members, Emily SoRelle Adams. Ms. Adams began her formal dance training at the Kirov Academy in Washington D.C, and went on to study at the Baltimore School for the Arts, the Washington School of Ballet and the Rock School of Pennsylvania Ballet. She attended Southern Methodist University-Meadows School for the Arts in Dallas, Texas, working towards her BFA in Dance Performance before dancing professionally with both Ballet Austin and The Washington Ballet. In 2004 Ms. Adams moved to NYC as a freelance artist and spent the next several years performing soloist and principal roles with companies including the New Chamber Ballet, Connecticut Ballet and Rebecca Kelly Ballet. She also performed at the Metropolitan Opera in Christopher Wheeldon's original choreography in La Giaconda, as well as in the stage and cinema debut of Robert Lepage's production of La Damnation de Faust. Ms. Adams has taught students of all ages and levels throughout NYC area dance schools for over 8 years. Most recently she completed a year long Foundations for Dance Education course at the Dance Education Laboratory-92nd Street Y in NYC. She is also an enthusiastic Pilates instructor, who loves bringing her students a healthy, balanced approach to their dance technique. Ms. Adams currently teaches Creative Ballet 1 and Primary Ballet, in addition to Ballet Technique and Pointe to Levels 4, 5 and 6.
