New Partnership Announcement

SHC is now a partner organization of the Maryland Office of Refugees and Asylees (MORA)

SHC's innovative multigenerational approach to English Learning is now part of the Refugee Family Education Program administered by MORA. This is a recognition of the great demand in Maryland for programs that are child welcoming, and the focus on removing barriers to accessing English Learning.

SHC is honored to be selected as a MORA partner and we look forward to continuing our work for families in Maryland in cooperation with other MORA partners, local non-profits, and the wider volunteer community.

More Good News!

Coming soon . . . SHC Mobile Classroom

SHC is preparing a mobile classroom unit for launch in 2023! MORA and SHC will bring English learning and family engagement directly to families in local communities.

By partnering with libraries, other non-profits and schools, SHC has always been able to offer programming in local communities accessible to our families. Even so, many families report that lack of transportation and inadequate technology prevents them from participating.

Our mobile classroom will be an accessible way to introduce isolated families to SHC programming and other resources in our community. Stay tuned for more updates!

SHC Board Updates

Thank you Aerlande!

SHC Board president Aerlande Wontamo will step down from the SHC Board after four years of leadership.

Although this ends Aerlande's formal role with the SHC Board of Directors, it is not an end to her connection with SHC and deep commitment to our mission. Aerlande has worked professionally and as a volunteer with local newcomer families for many years and will remain connected to the SHC Family for years to come.

Thank you Aerlande.

Welcome new Board Members!

We are pleased to welcome three new board members to our SHC family. Marcie Bane, Ebony Harris, and Alan Sachs joined the SHC Board this Fall. Welcome!

Friendsgiving with SHC

In 2019 SHC welcomed volunteers, students and families, to share food and traditions; celebrating Friendsgiving together. We are overjoyed to be able to come together to celebrate in person once again this year.

Is your group, business, or congregation able to sponsor Friendsgiving this year? Please help us include as many SHC Families as possible!
