That's a Wrap on Fall 2024

On October 12th, we celebrated the close of our fall season with our first-ever night game under the lights—a spectacular end to a record-breaking season! This year, our league grew to six teams, and we welcomed an incredible 91 athletes to the field, setting a new participation record. None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of our dedicated volunteers and generous donors.

A huge thank you goes out to Cal-West Rentals for lighting up the field and Stellar XP for bringing in the jumbotron, adding the true spirit of an MLB game. Rip City Riders brought the energy to the pavilion and topped off the evening by grilling hot dogs for the perfect post-game celebration.

Throughout the season, the Petaluma Rotary kept our athletes and volunteers energized with post-game hot dogs, and our phenomenal volunteers showed up week after week, creating lasting bonds with our athletes. We are beyond grateful to each volunteer and community partner who made this season memorable. Special thanks to:

  • PHS Flag Football
  • Bombers Baseball Academy
  • United Cerebral Palsy of North Bay
  • Acme Burger
  • Just Serve
  • Sonoma State Softball
  • Easton Elite Softball
  • Grapettes Softball 14U
  • Marin County Sheriff’s Office
  • Amor Para Todos
  • PHS Football
  • Rip City Riders
  • Casa Grande Football
  • Wise Girl Workshop
  • Santa Rosa JC Softball

Thank you for coming out this season. Watching our community rally around these incredible athletes fills us with joy. Here’s to the bonds built, the memories made, and the power of community coming together!

Volunteers

Volunteers, we need you too! We need our favorite buddies to dance alongside our athletes, support them in making crafts, join them at the table while they enjoy delicious food, and make them laugh for the perfect smile when they take a picture with Santa. When all the fun is over, and we send our players home, we'll need a cleanup crew to return the Elks Lodge to its original state. We ask that you attend from 12:30pm - 3:45pm. You'll be given a MLNB volunteer shirt to wear so you are easily identifiable to our players.

Homer's Highlight

Shining Bright on the Field and Beyond, Meet Justin!

Justin is a familiar face here, always bringing his joy, dance moves, and playful pre-batting routine, taunting the pitcher with everything he’s got! Born four weeks early, Justin surprised his family when he arrived with Down syndrome and a congenital heart defect, which led to open-heart surgery at only four months old. Justin now lives in Rohnert Park with his mom, Nannet, dad, John, and their little chihuahua, Roxy. He’s also close to his big sister, who lives nearby, and his 16-year-old niece.

Justin is a social butterfly, with a knack for making friends wherever he goes. His love for performing shines through on the field, where we’ve all witnessed him sing and share his contagious dance moves! Justin also enjoys bowling and horseback riding. After spending weekdays at Alchemia, a fantastic day program in Santa Rosa, Justin heads off to a range of activities, from SciFit gym workouts to movement labs and jazz dance classes. Recently, he’s been growing more independent with his horseback riding at Full Stride, even learning to dismount on his own!

A true adrenaline enthusiast, Justin loves rides and adventures! He has a blast at Disneyland and Universal Studios. Recently, he took a Disney Cruise, where he met his favorite characters and enjoyed some magical time with his mom and bestie Scotty (who we all know and love!). In addition to Disney, a favorite vacation destination is Las Vegas! He’s all about the lights, hot tubs, and people-watching on the Strip.

Justin’s a huge WWE fan, so much so that you’ll find him front and center every Friday night to catch the latest match. In fact, he recently got to sit ringside, meeting some of his wrestling heroes—a highlight for him! Although he didn’t get to meet his all-time favorite WWE star, John Cena, he’s hoping there’s an encounter in his future! However, he did meet another big star on his roster, Simon Cowell, when he went to see *America’s Got Talent* live!

Justin is expanding his athletic prowess outside of Miracle League; he recently participated in his first Special Olympics golf game and competed in track and field.

And if you ever want to make Justin’s day, just offer him a milkshake! He’s a self-proclaimed “milkshake connoisseur,” especially when paired with French fries. Despite his limited diet, Justin knows what he loves.

Whether he’s throwing the ball back in from the field or dancing in the rain under the lights, Justin’s spirit is contagious, making him a special part of our Miracle League family.
