November 2020 News
Welcome to the Yoga House!
You may have received an email regarding the new government mandated protocols regarding closure of yoga studios. We will remain closed until January 2021, when hopefully our in studio classes can resume. In the meantime, we have many online zoom classes and we will be offering more in the New Year!

Our Annual KYH AGM (via zoom) is coming up, and Members are welcome to attend to hear about what goes on behind the scenes of our non-profit yoga society! Please register via our website (or below) so that you may receive the link to join the meeting.

Please read on and note that a special complimentary yoga class is coming up in December to honour the birthday of our teacher BKS Iyengar, as well as a great article submitted by a regular KYH student and his experience with online classes. Also, don't forget to scroll down for a very yummy holiday recipe!

We wish you all good health, peace and comfort. Please check your inbox in December for the Winter 2021 Class Schedule!

Thursday is still "Yoga Day" at the Martins, thanks to KYH online classes! by Mike Martin
I believe our story is similar to many Kelowna Yoga House members; Sue and I had been attending weekly and bi-weekly KYH sessions for over ten years. We have enjoyed beginner, intermediate, restorative and all-levels classes from most of the KYH teachers – without reservation, all of them do a great job! Throughout the years we have come to know the teachers and our fellow students…in many ways, they have become our extended family.

For the last few years, Thursday had been our yoga day (my wife Sue attended other classes throughout the week.) Thursday is a very special day in the Martin household; we clean our condo, take the seven-minute walk to KYH, attend Laurie’s all level 4:00 PM express class, then grab take-out Japanese food.

When COVID-19 hit us in March, all of that stopped. Initially, we put together a home program based mainly on books we have, web searches and recommendations from KYH. Honestly, it was hit or miss at the best of times; while our intentions were good, something always seemed to get in the way from doing our yoga.

Caramel Pecan Squares
caramel pecan squares
2 cups flour (can use gluten free flour)
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup softened butter

1 1/4 cups whole pecans
2/3 cups butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla

1-2 cups chocolate chips

  • Mix 3 crust ingredients until fine.
  • Press into an ungreased 9x13 pan.
  • Sprinkle pecan halves evenly over crust.
  • In heavy 2-quart saucepan, combine filling ingredients.
  • Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until entire surface of mixture begins to boil. Keep stirring and boil 1/2-1 minute. Pour over pecans.
  • Bake @ 350 F until caramel layer is bubbly and crust is golden brown (15 minutes.)
  • Remove from oven and sprinkle with chocolate chips ( I use dark.) Allow to melt slightly and lightly swirl chip. Cool and cut into bars.

This recipe is now a Forsythe Family holiday tradition! Caution, you may need to do a few more sun salutations if you bake these! They are delicious!
