Reflecting on a year of innovation
In response to Covid-19, we launched Distance Learning Lab and shared classes and activities online prepared by our instructors during mandated social distancing.

We welcomed a limited number of students to our summer learning camp. It was an opportunity to emphasize outdoor education and use the organic garden at our Community Learning Center at the Neighborhood House. Adherence to strict safety procedures allowed for a healthy and fun summer.
For the 2020-21 school year, we introduced Remote Learning Support Lab––a full-day program to coincide with the school day for cohort students from local schools. The program includes supervision of remote assignments in the morning, and hands-on enrichment activities in the areas of STEM, literacy, arts, and health/wellness in the afternoon. This is in addition to our daily after school program.
We commenced pod learning and made available the opportunity to schedule small sessions with a certified teacher.

This fall, we resumed our community learning initiative to offer courses for all ages from stop-motion animation to conversational Spanish.
We need your help.
Last September, we were awarded a five-year grant from NY State Advantage After School funding, but due to the pandemic, receipt of our grant money has been delayed indefinitely. Moreover, it could be subject to reduction when we do receive it as State budgets are stretched and scrutinized in the pandemic response. The need to secure similar funding––$280K annually––to keep lights on and programs running and financially accessible for families is dire. In this climactic time, can we turn to you for support? Ways to help include sponsoring a student scholarship or program, or committing to a recurring donation.
