Gratitude & Insights: a look back on the Fall Member Meeting

As the dust settles on RCMA's 2023 Fall Member Meeting, we wanted to express our heartfelt thank you to every member who attended. Your presence was the cornerstone of this event's success. Each of you, by choosing to participate, demonstrated a commitment to the growth and resilience of the roof coatings industry. It is your engagement that drives our industry forward.

This year's meeting was an extraordinary opportunity to hear from industry leaders about the most pressing matters shaping roof coatings today. The insights shared provided valuable perspectives on current trends, challenges, and opportunities in our industry. These discussions are crucial as they help us stay informed and ahead in a rapidly evolving landscape.

We look forward to meeting in-person again on April 17-19, 2024.

We are excited to welcome AguaSeal to the RCMA community. We caught up with Perry Smith, General Manager, to learn more about AguaSeal.

Tell us about AguaSeal.

AguaSeal was formed in 2016 as a result of what we saw as a growing need in the market for a line of high-quality roofing and waterproofing systems supported by experienced technical sales and customer service. All of our founding owners and management each has at least 25 years of experience in the "fluid applied roofing" industry with several who started in the late 1980's and us "late comers" having started in the mid 1990's. Over our many decades in the industry, our core values have always been to develop close relationships with our customers and vendors. Originally these values were instilled in us by Nick Causey and Richard Daniel who were at that time the industry leaders in the fluid applied roofing industry. After experiencing several private equity buyouts and finally the sale of our company to a large corporation we unfortunately witnessed the erosion of the important relationships between our customers and that brand. We felt as if we owed it to our customers and friends to support them with the highest-quality systems and services that they had come to know and rely on so AguaSeal was born.

How long have you personally worked at the company? In the industry?

I started in the industry in 1995 as a production manager for Hydro-Stop Inc. Over the many years since, I've supported that company and others in the roles of Plant Manager, Technical Sales Representative, Technical Director, Chief Financial Officer, and floor sweeper! Officially today I am one of the partners and the General Manager of the AguaSeal Acquisition, LLC.

What markets do you serve?

AguaSeal initially concentrated on commercial and industrial reroofs (and we will continue to). With the addition of Chris Meyer, as our National Sales Manager and a fellow alumnus, we are adding new products and creating new product branding to move us into the DIY, residential, light commercial/property manager, and RV coatings markets. Our goal is to have a product offering for a very diverse application range while maintaining the highest level of quality.

Why did your company join the RCMA?

Having been members of the RCMA before (for various companies) we have already experienced the value of membership, especially by developing relationships with the many companies in our market.

Name the benefits you hope to gain from membership in the association.

Working with other members of the RCMA, we hope to bring value and insight, (as well as gaining value and insight), to an industry we have been a part of for decades. Our industry needs the support and experience to move forward and bring other, newer generations into the fold. We are looking forward to being an active part in that process.
