'Tis the Season of Giving!
Colorado Gives Day is a massive, state-wide fundraising day for all participating nonprofits. It began 10 years ago and continues to be a unifying event throughout the community, providing a single day (not to mention the run-up month) for everyone to show their generous support for the organizations and causes we each hold dear.

Starting this year, you can now begin donating on Nov 01 (today!) and have the funds go directly into our CO Gives Day account - further proving the day's efficiency and success for everyone.

Head over to our CO Gives Day page to read more, and donate! Last year we raised over $18,000 - a new record for us. Help us beat last year's record and bring us to an even $20k!

Colorado Headwaters Land Trust is a proud member of Grand County Gives, as well, which is the county coalition of nonprofits working together to raise awareness for each of us, and all of us. Join us on Tuesday, December 03, for the Grand County Gives Rally, happening throughout the county! More than 20 nonprofits are participating. Click here to see the Facebook event. More details will be emailed in a few weeks.
Monitoring Season Is Over!
We are so thankful to have Audrey Volt as our annual monitoring consultant. To close out the monitoring season, Audrey wrote a brief summary of her work and the season:
I have been fortunate to do the annual monitoring of conservation easements held by CHLT for the last two years, as well as for the years 2011-2013. All conservation easements are required to be monitored annually, to confirm compliance with the terms of each individual easement, set by the original easement grantor and the Land Trust. Each easement property has set photo points, identified by GPS coordinates. I walk and/or drive to each photo point and take photos in the same directions every year.

It’s always enjoyable when the landowner accompanies me on my walk around their property. It’s a great time to catch up and talk about what’s happening with the property. As you can imagine, I spend a good portion of my summer walking around some of Grand County’s most scenic properties and talking with the friendliest conservation-minded landowners. In addition to great scenery, there’s also a good chance of viewing wildlife: bonus! The monitoring work usually begins in late May and extends through September. As the snow arrives in the high country, the monitoring work is done for the year, and we look forward to meeting with landowners in 2020!
Do you know a high school senior in Grand County?
Are they interested in pursuring land and resource conservation and/or management in their college or professional careers?

If so, they should apply for the Carolyn Hackman Education Fund Scholarship! It is the privilege of the Colorado Headwaters Land Trust to offer one $1,000 scholarship to a graduate from each of Grand County’s high schools!
.
This funding is available due to a donor’s request to create the Carolyn Hackman Education Fund for students of Grand County who wish to increase their knowledge of land conservation and management and carry such knowledge into their adult years.

To apply, please speak to the school counselor, or email the CHLT office .

Here are some of our posts from June:
Oct 25 : Another beautiful shot of Spring Valley Ranch, down on Rte 3, taken during monitoring in September. Just a nice reminder of the land looks like without all the snow!

70 acres on Spring Valley Ranch were conserved in 2006, for their agricultural, wildlife, water, and scenic values. It is a gorgeous property - next time you take Rte 3 (past Williams Fork Reservoir) enjoy the wide open spaces next to the road!
Oct 22 : You might have noticed we've been quiet for a minute - but now we're back in action! We've been at the Land Trust Alliance Rally, in Raleigh, NC, meeting our colleagues, partners, and friends from all over the country to discuss topics pertinent to land protection, conservation easements, and nonprofit management in the field.

But now we're thrilled to be back in the county, especially with this snow! Gotta get the skis ready . . .
Oct 08 : Snow is in the forecast! Are you ready for winter? We are looking forward to all the beautiful landscapes carpeted in snow, clean and pristine.
