Ontario Government Increases Support for Veterans

New increased financial assistance and community supports for veterans

The Ontario government is increasing the financial assistance available to veterans and their families through the Soldiers’ Aid Commission.

The government is also making new regulatory amendments, which will allow eligible veterans and their family members to receive up to $3,000 each year, up from $2,000, to help pay for essential services and supports.

Eligible veterans can find out how to apply to the Soldiers’ Aid Commission at Ontario.ca/SoldiersAid.

Oversight Body for PSWs

The Health and Supportive Care Providers Oversight Authority

The Health and Supportive Care Providers Oversight Authority (HSCPOA) is a new independent regulatory body created by the Ontario government to support public protection. They will be registering and holding Personal Support Workers (PSWs) who choose to register, accountable for safe, quality, ethical care provided to Ontario residents in their homes, hospitals, long-term care facilities, or other environments where care is provided.

This information may be helpful to any occupational therapists, patients, clients and caregivers who have concerns about services delivered by PSWs.

Practice Q&A

Gift giving

You asked us: Can I accept a gift from my client?

A reminder to OTs about gift giving. As the holiday season approaches, occupational therapists may start receiving gifts from patients or clients. While these gestures are often well-intentioned, they can also inadvertently affect professional interactions.

Ontario Health Osteoarthritis Quality Standard

Ontario Health has released an updated quality standard on osteoarthritis. Originally released in 2018, the Osteoarthritis: Care for Adults With Osteoarthritis of the Knee, Hip, or Hand quality standard has been expanded to include osteoarthritis of the shoulder and updated to align with the most recent clinical evidence.

Please review and share the updated quality standard and accompanying resources such as the quick reference placemat, patient guide, and technical specifications.
