New Competencies Now in Effect
Competencies for Occupational Therapists in Canada
|
|
These Competencies reflect the broad range of skills and abilities required of all occupational therapists in Canada at every stage of their career.
|
|
Quality Assurance Updates
Changes coming in 2023
|
|
Your Quality Assurance requirements are undergoing some changes.
New Names
In the last newsletter we asked your preference in renaming the prescribed regulatory education program (PREP). The majority chose Annual eLearning Module as the new name. Thank you to the almost 400 OTs who replied!
New Combined Plan
The Self-Assessment and Professional Development Plan will be combined!
A new tool was needed to reflect the Competencies for Occupational Therapists in Canada that came into effect November 1, 2022. Instead of a separate form for the Self-Assessment and Professional Development Plan, the new tool combines both with a focus on growth and the impact of new learning. It will be called the Annual Learning Plan.
New Deadline
Mark October 31st in your calendars. Both the Annual eLearning Module and the Annual Learning Plan will be due every October 31st.

At A Glance
Annual Learning Plan
- To support continuing competence, occupational therapists develop a custom 2-part self assessment and learning plan. OTs first rate their competence, create goals and select related learning activities.
- After, occupational therapists reflect and describe how this new learning has impacted their practice and clients within the service.
Annual eLearning Module
- To support continuous learning, this training aims to enhance occupational therapists' knowledge about how to apply the Competencies, Code of Ethics and Standard of Practice to changing occupational therapy practice.
These tools will be available in 2023. Stay tuned for more details!

Case of the Month
OTs Providing Education or Training of Recommendations to Others
|
|
Rebecca is an occupational therapist working in home and community care. She receives a referral to assess a client’s ability to transfer using a mechanical lift and provide training to the personal support worker (PSW).
The PSW is from a different community agency and will be assisting the client to transfer daily. Rebecca wonders whether this situation is the same as assigning a task to an occupational therapist assistant.
