We're Not Leaving!

Thoughts on leaving, returning, and then leaving camp again.

The road is long and winding, and inevitably nausea accompanies the ride. There are the classic landmarks: the windmills, Waymart, the cows, the White Church (St. Juliana's by the way), Mile Hill, and then you are there - Camp Ramah in the Poconos.

As soon as you arrive you feel at home again. The air is cleaner, nature surrounds you, and troubles seem to slip away. These feelings of peace are compounded when your arrival at Camp comes in the middle of October, and not at the beginning of June!

Having just completed our annual Fall Reunions I am left with an overwhelming sense of happiness, tranquility, and of course, the desire to go back again.

This feeling was best expressed by members of Shoafim 2013 (Gesher 2014) who shared with me the following thoughts on the last day of our reunion last Sunday:

We're Not Leaving!
We're Not Leaving!

In some ways this is the essential Ramah experience - the feeling of always being at home in a place which is far away from home.

Or as our Halutzim 2013 (Bogrim 2014) camper Seth Elkins calls it:

My Second Home!

Parent Survey 2013

Dear Parents,

Last month we sent you a camper and parent survey and we informed you of our intention to:

c) And to Share the Findings with our Constituency.

We thank all of those who took the time to fill out the surveys and we greatly appreciate your feedback.

We learned a lot - and an executive summary of the survey results can be found by clicking here.

A Note from the Director

The weather is changing and so is the focus of the day camp.  We thank you for your participation in the Parent Survey, and we are carefully looking at the results to best prepare for Kayitz 2014. We look forward to another great summer with an excellent sports clinic and a brand new clinic in the arts. Our outstanding program reached more campers than ever. We could not have done it without
your help. We are so proud of our program, we want every family to have the ability to experience a life changing summer at Ramah Day Camp.

Now is the time to share the Ramah Experience with your family, friends, and neighbors. Let's work together to keep expanding the Ramah family for next summer! Tell those around you about our first Open House of the year, for a taste of the fabulous Ramah Day Camp experience!

Spotlight on: Athletics

RDC offers baseball, flag football, hockey, track and field, basketball, soccer, lacrosse, volleyball, field hockey, badminton, archery, ultimate frisbee, frisbee golf, kickball, dodgeball, gaga, indoor tennis and much more!

Any child can go to camp and learn how to play baseball, soccer, or lacrosse, but children at Ramah Day Camp gain so much more than athletic skills alone. Not only do our chanichim gain practical sport skills and have fun, they also develop social connections, self confidence, and team building. We work  to ensure that all campers feel included and challenged. Our staff serves as great role models and provides constant encouragement. For sports enthusiasts, we offer more intensive involvement in sports through our chugim, track, and newly added elective programs. In addition to sports track, electives allow campers in Solelim, Arazim, and Etgar more specialized options and more intensive sport experiences.

We were so excited to offer our first sports clinic this past summer. We partnered with UKElite, a premier soccer coaching organization, to provide a more comprehensive soccer training experience. Their highly trained and professional staff immersed our chanichim in the technical and tactical development of soccer skills. They also mentored our sport staff and gave additional soccer training, which was invaluable for the rest of the summer and for many summers to come.

We constantly strive to improve our athletics program, and we are confident that your camper will develop all of the physical, mental, and emotional skills necessary for becoming an excellent athlete and team player!
