NOVEMBER NEWS
November / 4 / 2018
Dear Forest Hills Family and Friends,

October was quite a busy month for us at Forest Hills. We enjoyed a successful Walk to End Alzheimer's with our community ( see photos here). Thank you to those who were able to join us and support this important cause. Our team page is still open, if you did not yet get the chance to donate here.

It was a big news month for us, including a television story about our residents, recognition for our Nurse Educator, and more! Be sure to read on in this newsletter to get the full scoop.

For news around campus, our Life Enrichment team says farewell to Debbie Childs, while Claudia Campusano steps into a new role as Life Enrichment Coach. Claudia will continue to schedule all medical appointments for residents and family members requesting transportation, though she will no longer drive the van. Shalena Toney has joined us to serve as our new driver and we know she will be an excellent addition to our team!

Finally, we enjoyed a lovely afternoon celebrating our favorite caregivers at Forest Hills (hint: that's everyone!). Take a look at some photos arranged by Ceca Foundation here.

Thank you to all of the family & friends we get to see visiting us at Forest Hills. Hope to see you around!

Sending my warm regards,

Forest Hills Nurse Educator Recognized
Janice Johnson, leader in infection prevention

For the first issue of their upcoming quarterly newsletter, DC Healthcare Associated Infections (HAI) Advisory Committee will feature Forest Hills Nurse Educator, Janice Johnson, BSN, RN-BC.

Janice joined Forest Hills in March of 2016 as RN Educator and Infection Preventionist, responsible for all staff training and in-service programs. Prior to Forest Hills, Janice served as Director of Nursing and Geriatric Nurse Manager at the Carroll Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at Providence Hospital.

Janice is readily recognizable by her big smile, positive attitude and clean white lab coat. Congratulations Janice!

Stay tuned for the article in the January 2019 issue of the HAI Program's newsletter.

Ceca Award Winner
Vivian Ojo-Felix

Congratulations to Vivian Ojo-Felix on winning the Ceca Award! We celebrated the award at Forest Hills with some of the nice things residents and peers had to say:

"I know it's in a nurses make up to have empathy and compassion, but with today's changes in the healthcare industry it's not easy. I was overwhelmed with joy and pride to see Vivian give that extra touch when one of our residents was actively dying. She did not want her to die alone in her room. She made the resident her #1 priority even after she passed. She stayed in the room with friends and family and assisted with whatever was needed."

"Vivian runs a tight ship on her unit - loved and respected by all residents, families and staff. Recently, a long-time resident was passing and Vivian was present when the family was unable - when they arrived they were very moved by her compassion."

Thank you, Vivian, for all you do for our residents and our community!
