Iowa Arts in Education Day
My name is Emily Tinsman and I’m the current Miss Iowa 2019. I graduated in May with a degree in Music Education from Drake University and I now get to spend my year advocating for the arts.

As I’m preparing for Miss America, I’m focusing on utilizing this time to create more fundraising efforts and advocacy opportunities that highlight the importance of arts in schools.

I’m excited to share some news with you all! November 6 th  will now be known as Arts in Education Day. Governor Kim Reynolds will sign an Arts in Education Proclamation at 3:00PM on November 15th in Room 109 of the Iowa State Capitol.

Thank you for supporting the arts,
Emily Tinsman

IAAE Mentor Program
We had a great concert in October with John Lloyd Young to benefit the IAAE Model of Excellence Mentor Program. Thanks to all who donated or attended the concert.

Most of the mentor/mentee pairs have been assigned for the school year. If you have a 1st or 2nd-year arts teacher (or someone who may be new to the arts teaching arena) who would like a mentor, please find more information here.

Check out our previous webinar to learn more about what IAAE does for arts organizations and how the IAAE mentor programs works. Webinar includes information on IAAE priorities and history about the mentor program, and how to participate in the program.

Advocacy Day 2020
The Iowa Alliance for Arts Education is sponsoring the seventh annual Arts Advocacy Day at the State Capitol in Des Moines on Wednesday, January 22, 2020.   Emily Timsman, the current Miss Iowa, (see previous article about Iowa Arts in Education Day) will be joining the Iowa Alliance for Arts Education as an advocate for arts education.

Emily Tinsman graduated in May with a degree in Music Education from Drake University and is now spending her year advocating for the arts. As she is preparing for Miss America, she is focusing on utilizing this time to create more fundraising efforts and advocacy opportunities that highlight the importance of arts in schools.

If you would be willing to be an arts advocate, you can register by clicking the link below.

Final information on Arts Advocacy Day will be sent the first week of January. Please pass on this information to your friends and colleagues.

Thank you so much for your support of arts education in our state!
