October Reflections
Harvest Fest Takes the Cake
Thank you, Gretta Harmon, all of our wonderful SERVE team members, and other volunteers who worked so hard to make our Harvest Fest a huge success!

Carnival games, a bounce house, an inflatable slide, and the trapeze trampoline were just some of the many fun and exciting activities we all enjoyed. The cake walk was amazing and so was the food.

After Harvest Fest, activities moved into the gym with the kickoff celebration for basketball season, Midnight Madness, where our teachers gave our high school basketball players quite the competition. During time-outs, Ms. Michele and Mr. House selected the winners of the awesome Harvest Fest raffle prizes. The National Honor Society quilt winner was also drawn before the end of the night.

Thank you NVCA families for all of your steadfast support and participation!
We Wore Out Our Sneakers and T-Shirts!
This year, our students gave it their all to help raise funds in support of our school. From the preschoolers to the high-schoolers, each participant helped to secure $30,000-plus in pledges to go toward the purchase of a new activity van.

We want to thank all of our students and their parents, friends, and extended family for making this year's Fun Run a very special one!

Getting to Know Our Preschool 4s Teachers
Kim Ciliberti
I have been with NVCA for five years. Before I came to the school, I was teaching kindergarten and preschool in the Scottsdale School District.

The most enjoyable part of teaching for me is seeing little minds being creative and learning something new each day. I enjoy teaching preschool children about the love of Jesus!

In October we worked on the Science of Pumpkins, and this month we are working on our Friendsgiving unit. We will learn and become examples of what it means to be a good friend to each other. My goal for the school year is that each one of my kiddos leaves my class with a love for school. My teaching motto is Teach, Love, and Inspire. My favorite scripture is Proverbs 3:5, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart...."
Angela Christensen
I started at NVCA in August. Before joining the school staff, I worked at Red Truck Trading Company. I love it when I see the look in the children's faces that says..."I get it!" I also love when the children tell their parents what they learned and how excited they are to have learned new things.

Currently, we're learning about how God protected baby Moses. My desire is to make a positive difference in at least one child's life.

My favorite scripture is Matthew 19:26: "Jesus looked at them and said, 'With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.'"
Diane Tinker
This is my third year at NVCA. I retired from Atonement Lutheran School, Glendale, where I had served for eight years. Previously, I taught and directed the Early Childhood program at Shepherd of the Desert Lutheran School in Scottsdale. I just couldn't stay away! What I love the most is sharing Jesus and guiding the children as they explore and discover the greatness of God's Creation.

November is harvest time, so after finishing up pumpkins, corn, and manners, we will give Thanks!

My goal is for the children to develop a life-long love for learning! Strangely enough, our theme verse this year is the verse that has been a favorite of mine for many years. "Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." (1Thess. 5:16–18)
Kathy Thoele
I have been with NVCA for one year. I am a teacher's aide for Mrs. Ciliberti. Before that I was a manager at Mayo Clinic and a lead teacher at Valley Child Care and Learning in Anthem.

I love being with the kiddos and sharing their experiences. Being an aide in preschool is extremely rewarding. I get to share my faith and love for God with the littles and, in turn, they share the same with me. Their hearts are so pure, and they provide unconditional love that just fills my heart.

This month we are celebrating the autumn season and all that God provides. Also, we are progressing through the alphabet, learning what it is to have patience, and learning how to use our words to communicate with our friends.

My goal is to be the best that I can be for Mrs. Ciliberti and the kiddos. My favorite scripture is Psalm 27, “…Rely on the Lord! Be strong and confident! Rely on the Lord!”
Soccer Program Season Highlights
During our first year in a soccer program and under the direction of Coach Jason Stevens, both the high school and middle school Lions fought with courage and learned the game of soccer. Both teams celebrated many milestones including the high school team winning their first game in a tense matchup against Page High School where they had gone down early, 1–0. "Throughout the year we have had many multi-sport athletes who have helped us grow join the team. And without the team’s dedication to their teammates, we would not have had the results we had this year," said Coach Stevens.

The high school season culminated for the Lions when they won their last game of the season against Page High School. Page went up early when their varsity goalie scored against the Lions, but the Lions persevered. Senior goalkeeper, Ian Huizenga, kept the Lions in the game by deflecting a hard-to-save penalty kick enough to see the shot bounce off the bar. The Lions then pulled even when Riley Mergener finished with a well-placed cross. As the game progressed, the Lions continued to fight for the go-ahead goal, which came when Porter Rollins fouled on a break towards the goal. Freshman Shamus Flanagan finished the free kick with less than ten minutes remaining in the game. As the final whistle blew on the game and the season, the Lions came out on top, 2–1, to finish their first season. With a record of 1–3–1, the Lions look to build upon their successes.

The middle school Lions finished their first season surrounded by great play, lots of heart, and plenty to build upon for the next season. "The Lions competed against some of Arizona's best teams and grew every single time they walked out on the field. I could not be more proud of the effort that this team put into every game. From learning to pass at the beginning of the season to being highly competitive against schools with well-known programs, I was very proud of each of our players," said Coach Stevens. The Lions middle school soccer program will be an intricate part of growing a program for our school. In addition, tremendous growth is clear in all of our players.

In the coming months, we’ll hold soccer sessions during middle school PE and camps for both high school and middle school athletes. We’ll also welcome new additions to the program for the next seasons. Keep an eye out for continual updates and great things to come for both the middle school and high school Lions soccer teams!
