Election Information

The 2016 Presidential Election will be held on Tuesday, November 8 th .  
 
Confirm you are registered to vote

Absentee Ballot Information
Absentee voter ballots are available for all elections. They provide voters with a convenient method for casting a ballot when they are unable to attend the polls on Election Day, are over 60, or meet certain requirements.  
 
You may apply for an absentee ballot at the city clerk's office during regular business hours, by mail, or fax.  The Clerk's Office is offering extend hours on the following date:
Saturday, November 5th - open from  9:00 AM - 2:00 PM
 
Applications for an absentee ballot can be downloaded at www.bhamgov.org/voting. Absentee ballots are due by 8:00 PM on Election Day.
Public Open House Set for Old Woodward and Maple Redesign 

Over the next several years, the City of Birmingham will invest in the City's infrastructure by addressing the needs in the downtown Central Business District with water system, sewer system and streetscape upgrades. The community is invited to attend a Public Open House event to learn more about the streetscape upgrades. The event details are as follows:

Event: Old Woodward & Maple Redesign Public Open House
Date: Monday, November 7, 2016
Time: 4 p.m. - 7 p.m.
Where: Baldwin Public Library, Jeanne Lloyd Room (2nd Floor)

Event Details: The project consultant, MKSK, will present proposed designs for the complete redesign of Old Woodward and Maple in Downtown Birmingham. Topics discussed will include: road design, on-street parking, pedestrian crossings, sidewalks and streetscape.

Families Encouraged to Enter Birmingham Santa Contest


Light Up the Town with Santa on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016!
 
The Birmingham Shopping District encourages families to submit their entry for the 2016 Birmingham Santa Contest. The treasured tradition gives local families an opportunity to help Santa light up Birmingham's beautiful tree on Wednesday, November 23 during the Birmingham Tree Lighting event in Shain Park at 6 p.m.
 
The winning family will enjoy hot cocoa and cookies with Santa at The Townsend Hotel in downtown Birmingham, followed by a horse-drawn carriage ride to the Birmingham Tree Lighting event. Once there, the family will help Santa, Birmingham's Mayor and other dignitaries with the official tree lighting ceremony. Topping off the evening, the family will be presented with a special gift.
 
Families may submit their entry online at www.ALLINBirmingham.com/SantaContest2016 . All entries must be submitted by Wednesday, November 16.

Holiday Happenings in Birmingham

November kicks off the community's favorite holiday traditions. It's a busy month in the City of Birmingham! Check out our upcoming holiday activities:
  
BIRMINGHAM TREE LIGHTING Wednesday, Nov. 23, 6 p.m., Shain Park 
Help Santa and the Mayor light up the town for the holidays! Enjoy caroling, carriage rides and free hot cocoa as well. Santa House opens following the ceremony. 

SANTA HOUSE Weekends November 23 - December 24, plus the Friday after Thanksgiving, during Winter Markt and Christmas Eve. Santa is in a real house for the holidays! (Take a photo with Santa. Proceeds benefit Leader Dogs for the Blind.) 

SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY - November 26 
Come tackle your holiday shopping and support local small businesses. Enjoy valet parking, strolling entertainment, carriage rides, and other fun treats. 

BIRMINGHAM WINTER MARKT Friday, December 2-Sunday, December 4 
Enjoy a charming old-world style market featuring local artisans, holiday decorations, home accessories, children's activities, live entertainment, plus traditional German food and drink! For details and event hours, go to www.BirminghamWinterMarkt.org.

Curbed Leaf Collection Continues

If your street has curbs, check the map above to determine when leaves will be collected from your street. You are guaranteed one collection from the street during your designated weeks. We recommend raking your leaves into the street the weekend prior to your designated week. All residents may continue to bag leaves and place them out on their refuse collection day through Friday, December 16, 2016.
November News from the Birmingham Museum    


Don't have the time to make it to the Museum this month? You can still enjoy some of our great content online! We've recently launched a virtual exhibit on the early history of Birmingham Schools and in the next few weeks we will be launching another on mastodon fossil finds in the area. The 1917 photo above shows an adult mastodon from the Smithsonian Museum.
Stay tuned for more information on this exhibit coming soon!

We also have reduced admission for the next few weeks, as we take down one exhibit and put up our next one. The museum is open Wednesday through Saturday, 1 PM to 4 PM  and located at 556 W. Maple Rd. Parking is available in the Chester St. structure on the south side of Maple.
