ERC Fall Expansion
ERC Welcomes New Staff and Board

Alisa McGowan (pictured above) has joined the ERC as Program Director. Alisa grew up in Massachusetts, graduating from the University of Vermont with a B.S. in Environmental Science and Water Resources. Prior to her work at the ERC, Alisa worked as a naturalist in Colorado, led whitewater rafting trips on the Salmon River, backcountry ski trips throughout the SNRA, and led outdoor trips for The Sage School and Community School.

Caroline Dayton , a therapeutic riding instructor at Swiftsure Ranch, has been in the area for six years. She grew up in a family that valued conservationism, and the environment in general, and hopes, through her work on the ERC Board, to continue that tradition.

Deb Taylor
, a botanist for the Sawtooth National Forest, has been in the area for 20 years. Deb values the community-centric nature of the interpretive educational approach and youth involvement of the ERC's programs and hopes to bring a science-based, land manager's perspective about the landscape we all share to the ERC Board.

Ashton Wilson, an educational adventure contractor and past BCRD youth coordinator, has been in the area for four years. Ashton is passionate about environmental education and hopes to infuse the ERC's youth programs with his enthusiasm as a member of the ERC Board.

After serving on the ERC Board for more than three years, Guy Cherp and James Gillespie are stepping off.  We thank them for their generous support and vital service and wish them luck as they embark on new adventures!
LUSH Cosmetics Charity Pot
ERC Receives Grant for Pesticide Action

In June, the ERC received a $13,300 grant from LUSH Cosmetics to go towards our Pesticide Action program,  which is working to reduce the use of pesticides, herbicides, and chemical fertilizers in Blaine County.

On Saturday, November 12 from 11:30am - 3:30pm, ERC staff had an opportunity to table at the LUSH Store in the Village at Meridian, promoting awareness of ERC programs and initiatives, as well as assisting in the sale of ERC-customized LUSH Charity Pot Lotions (pictured above).

To learn more about this grant, LUSH Cosmetics, and our memorable tabling experience, check out this blog post.
Fall Science After School
Hemingway and Bellevue Sessions Wrap Up

Twenty-five enthusiastic 4th and 5th grade students from Bellevue and Hemingway Elementary Schools participated in six-week long fall sessions of Science After School.  Hemingway students learned how they could be more sustainable in their daily lives, while Bellevue students explored local animal habitats and discussed the different adaptations animals possess to help them survive in the Wood River Valley.  Students and program leaders could not believe how fast the program sped by and are looking forward to future Science After School programs.

Information on winter sessions will be available in January.

Thank you to our incredible volunteers: Carolyn Gruver, Tyler Wolfley, Andrea Pierceall, Keefer Reynolds, and Ashton Wilson! We couldn't do it without you!

ERC Participates in #GivingTuesday Next Week!
There are so many ways to give to your favorite nonprofits, and this year, the ERC is excited to be participating in #GivingTuesday on Tuesday, November 29th.

Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many people around the U.S. focus on their holiday and year-end giving.

Interested in joining millions around the country and giving on this day?  You can give online on the ERC's #GivingTuesday site or general website, mail a donation, or swing by the ERC to drop your donation off.  Afterwards, make sure to tag #GivingTuesday on social media so your friends know you joined the movement!
