The Burton ISD Bond proposal will provide expansions for Burton High School and Burton Junior High School, allow for Elementary growth, address safety and security, increase kitchen and cafeteria capacity, and upgrade band, fine arts, and athletic facilities. A bond is funded with Interest and Sinking (I&S) monies and 100% of these dollars stay in Burton ISD!

The following was taken from the Texas Association of School Boards Update:
What is the purpose of a Public Education?
Sometimes it’s best to go back to the basics and ask the questions…
Why do we have public schools?
What do we value?
What are we trying to accomplish?

Bringing it back to the basics and thinking about the purposes of public education can help us keep conversations focused on student success and help us prioritize decisions that promote the long-term good of both our students and community. It’s not a viable or desirable future to only educate some students well. Our teams remain focused on educating every student well.

We expect our students to go through the public education K-12 system and come out at the other end able to pursue further education or find a sustaining job, hopefully with an interest in becoming involved in public service and expressing themselves by voting.
The Burton ISD is not only a place that provides safety, academic experiences, and extracurricular activities, but exists to educate children for both their benefit and for the greater good of our community, state, and world.
The pride of the Burton Panthers is embedded in all of us whether we are a student, an alumni, a community member, a staff member and employee, a parent, board member and/or a proud supporter and in many cases all of the above. We love our Panthers and like to think that the culture we are providing in educating our students is a reason why parents want their children to attend Burton ISD. We value our school district and always put students first. We are prepared to Dream Big, Sparkle More, and Shine Bright as the Future is Now for the Burton.

WHY CONTENTMENT?
This month, we are focusing on CONTENTMENT: learning to be okay with what you have.
I think a lot about this one every time we talk about it. It's tough. If we focus on contentment, aren't we telling kids to be OK with where they are and what they have? Aren't we missing an opportunity to talk about how hard work pays off?
I hear you. But think about it this way: Contentment is a form of gratitude for what you have. When you lead from the position of gratitude, it is contagious. In order to keep entitlement at bay, contentment and gratitude need to be in the mix. Instead of noticing, discussing, complaining about, and fretting over what you don't have, maybe this month you can commit to paying attention to what you DO have.

WAYS TO LOOK FOR THIS VALUE/SKILL:
People in your organization might say:
• “Although our facility is small, it is well-organized with materials that meet our needs.”
• “We have a small staff, but we always pull together to help one another.”
• “I am amazed at how resourceful you all are in coming up with what you need in spite of our small supply budget.”

You can say to kids:
  • "Thanks for not complaining that we're having meatloaf tonight instead of tacos. I had a busy day and didn't have time to go to the store."
  • "You did a great job of being grateful and showing contentment to Grandma when she gave you a book instead of a video game for your birthday."

Your support is more important than ever!
  • Like many organizations, we’ve had to adapt our services to match these unique times. This includes offering touchless book check-outs and a virtual summer program for our kiddos. Our fixed costs for things like staffing, facilities maintenance, utilities etc. continue. Our annual fundraiser is an important component of our financial planning, allowing us to offer:Art After School, in partnership with Arts for Rural Texas and RT-C Elementary School
  • Junior Master Gardeners, in partnership with RT-C Elementary School
  • Childrens Summer Program (Summer Education and Enrichment)
  • Big Draw Summer Reading program
  • A beautiful community greenspace, including a child’s playscape and the beautiful Grace Memorial Garden
  • For Your Information lecture series
  • “Author Author!” speakers series
  • Senior Gaming afternoons
  • Chess Club
  • Yoga classes
  • Dolly Parton Imagination Library – free books for pre-school children
  • Computer and smart phone classes
  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Book Club
Our Executive Director and our Board of Directors are careful stewards of the generous donations provided by our community, the funding provided by the Town or Round Top, and the grants we receive from wonderful foundations and organizations. A 10 year maintenance program allows us to anticipate and manage major facility repairs. A vibrant group of volunteers allow us to operate the library with just 4 part-time employees.  We are incredibly grateful to the group of generous donors who came together to help us expand the library campus and space by almost double – without putting the library in debt.

These are concerning times and we may not be as successful with our annual fundraiser as budgeted, Please consider a gift to the library this year to help us meet our budgeted needs.Click Here to Donate

We love our special library treasure and hope we can continue to count on your support and patronage!
10+ Years ago we opened Saddlehorn Winery. It has been an amazing journey! As we start our second decade, our vision remains the same. Thank you to everyone for allowing us to pursue our dream.
