November 2021
Right from the Start is a Mental Health Capacity Building Program. We are a team of Success Coaches at Banff Elementary School, Lawrence Grassi Middle School, Alpenglow School, and Elizabeth Rummel School. We offer universal mental health education and support to all children, teachers, and families. For more on our program and to see what we do, visit our website, or connect with us on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter.

This month we want to highlight some great workshops, programs and opportunities for children/youth and families!
Check out some of the wonderful community programs we have in the Bow Valley!
Rainbows Divorce & Separation Support
is a free program designed to provide support and camaraderie for all children and youth (K-12) who are experiencing separation/divorce. The program is delivered by a trained facilitator whose goal is to assist children and youth in expressing and understanding their feelings, accepting what has happened, and to help them experience a sense of belonging. This group can be valuable even if you are not currently seeing a shift in your child’s emotions or behaviour. To obtain more information about the Rainbows Program or for the consent form, please contact Laura Wellmann at Canmore FCSS by phone 403.678.7131 or by email laura.wellmann@canmore.ca.

Thursdays: 6:30-8:00pm | Next meeting Nov 4th

This group meets monthly and is open to all parents of tweens and teens. The group will discuss a variety of topics of interest which are determined by the parent participants. Historically, topics have included the teenage brain, defiance and motivation, growing up digital, money matters, healthy relationships and effective communication. The sessions are co-facilitated by a parent volunteer and FCSS’s Family and Community Worker.
If you or someone you know is interested in participating, please contact Laura Wellmann at laura.wellmann@canmore.ca or 403.678.7131 to register. Sessions are currently being held via zoom.

The Bow Valley Primary Care Network (PCN) is a network of health care professionals dedicated to improving and managing the healthcare of residents living in the Bow Valley. The network includes over 50 local doctors, registered nurses, clinicians, panel management assistants, and a small administrative team.
The Bow Valley PCN also coordinates with various community organizations and partners to connect Bow Valley residents of all walks of life with opportunities to improve their health and wellness.
When we started Community Conversations, our goal was to bring the Bow Valley Community together through conversations that inspire, challenge, and connect us as individuals. We carefully selected a topic each month that we felt might resonate with the community. We have talked about everything from hygge and hope to giving thanks and curiosity. But this month, we want to try something different: instead of planning a topic in advance, we want the conversations that you are already having to be the topic.
This month, tell us what you and your community are talking about. You know, the conversations that you have at the dinner table, in the line at the grocery store, on the bus, at school, on the way to school, in the staff room, on the hiking trails, and everywhere in between. As we talk about what we’re talking about, we’ll ask: what do these conversations mean to you? What do they mean for our community? What are we not talking about? What surprises us about these conversations?

Join us in conversation on Thursday, November 18 from 7 – 8 p.m. on Zoom:

This conversation is hosted by Right from the Start, YWCA Banff, Bow Valley Addiction and Mental Health, and Canmore FCSS.
