Starting in 2019, the Andrus Center for Public Policy Andrus Scholars program provides a stipend, academic credit, and matches selected scholars with an internship placement each summer. During the internship, students are able to gain pertinent job experience and a variety of skill development opportunities such as fieldwork, job shadowing, industry networking, conference attendance, mentoring, and career counseling. The 2023 placements included Advocates for the West, Bureau of Land Management, Idaho Conservation League, and Idaho Department of Fish & Game.

FEDERAL JOBS WORKSHOP DAY

The Federal Jobs Workshop Day
was a collaborative event coordinated by the Andrus Center for Public Policy, Career Services, Department of Biological Sciences, and the School of the Environment.
The collaborative event was hosted September 20, 2023 and was designed for students considering land management, conservation, public lands policy or other environmentally centered careers. In addition to conducting panels with experts from the Bureau of Land Management, Boise National Forest, and Life in the Wildlands, students were able to participate in individual consultations to ask questions, review resumes, and build connections with agencies and organizations. Students can plan on the Jobs Workshop Day being hosted again next year!

2024 YOUNG WOMEN AND LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
|
|
Women and men alike have lauded our original Women and Leadership Conference as a life-changing experience and would frequently comment that they wished there was a conference like it for their daughter or son. In response to this feedback, in 2019 we hosted the inaugural Young Women and Leadership Conference at Boise State University.
For one full school day, 9th-12th-grade students participate in keynote addresses, networking, and skill-building sessions during the annual Young Women and Leadership Conference. Registration opening in January 2024.

WOMEN AND LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE |

The 11th annual Women and Leadership conference reached 900 registrants across 28 States, the District of Columbia, and 5 Countries!
Our amazing keynote speaker lineup included retired basketball executive for the WNBA and entrepreneur, Angela Taylor, Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist and founder of Too Young to Wed, Stephanie Sinclair, New York University Development Director who’s known as the “$6 billion woman” for bringing in over a million a day to NYU, Debra Lamorte, former award-winning Fortune 50 tech executive, Cindy Montgenie, and retired FBI Supervisory Special Agent, Sarah G. Draper.
Recordings are accessible to registrants now and will be made available to the general public in September 2024 on the Andrus Center YouTube channel (@theandruscenterforpublicpo2692).

2024 JOHN FREEMUTH STUDENT CONGRESS |
|
The 2024 Student Congress will focus on public lands policy issues associated with the transition to renewable energy. Select college and university students from across the country will examine renewable energy development on public land through field work and policy discussions, culminating in a student-authored report that will be presented to the heads of federal land management agencies, in Washington, DC. Students will explore issues such as: climate change as the catalyst for change, the drive to decarbonize, and public lands trends in energy production and transmission.
The goals of this bi-annual program are to:
- Educate our youth on the history and current issues related to public land management;
- Engage students in providing input into the future of these lands; and
- Expand potential career consideration and enrich student resumes.
Application process will open in February.

STEWARDS OF TOMORROW CAMPAIGN |
|
The Andrus Center for Public Policy serves as Boise State University’s primary academic center on issues of environment and public lands. To continue to grow our reach and impact, we are planning to grow our student programs. The Center is currently raising funds for an endowed Stewards of Tomorrow campaign that further assist students pursuing environmental and public lands careers with experiential development, workforce preparation, and career advocacy so that they may become our stewards and leaders of tomorrow.
The fully implemented program will have ongoing personnel and student program costs.
The Center's success is reflected by the success of students as they go on to become tomorrow's leaders in the environment and public lands community. Help us help them to become the stewards who will protect our natural spaces for our children and grandchildren. Please consider contributing to our Stewards of Tomorrow campaign.
